Factors within the student related to functioning

My big ideas from the readings:
From the readings, I learned a lot more about ADHD and language impairments. It is very common for
children to have both ADHD and a language impairment, which makes sense due to their similar deficits.

Successes and Challenges to Language DevelopmentFall 2015

ADHD is known as the most frequent psychiatric diagnosis among children with language impairment at
45%.
My big ideas from the group presentation:
Children with ADHD will forget things easily, lack pragmatic skills, have poor organization, lose things often, and have difficulty
focusing. They also often do not understand the big picture or when things are right and wrong. Although the cause of ADHD is
unknown, it may be caused from pre or peri natal factors such as dietary factors, lead, pollutants, etc., They often cannot focus on
what someone is trying to say to them.

Reflection (What does this mean for my practice?):]

When working with kids who have ADHD, it is important that I be patient and repeat myself as often as
necessary. I need to remember not to get frustrated with the way they might act as they may not be able
to control it. Pragmatics will be the most important thing to work on in therapy.
