Reading Response 1
1. A writers voice is a reflection of a writers personality in their writing, i.e. how they write,
style, tone
2. People write in different styles because there are different settings that require a piece of
writing in the world. Genre distinguishes between the different settings and create a form
of guidelines for the style of writing.
- In school I will be using lab reports, academic emails, reports in general, research papers.
- In my career (nursing, PA) I will be completing charts, emailing my boss, writing
prescriptions
- Even texting is a genre
3. For my major I believe I am supposed to write in APA style
4. A rhetorical situation is the situation in which you as a writer are writing in. Including
audience, context and purpose.
5. Most often write in communicative genres, texting, emailing, posts on social media
websites. In the academic sense, I write research papers mainly.
6. Texting: the purpose is to either entertain, inform or question
Research paper: purpose is to inform or analyze
7. For texting, my audience is mainly friends or family, which is an informal audience. I
usually do not think about audience in this genre because texting is a mindless thing in
this generation. Although, if I am texting an important person like my boss I am sure to
be more formal and think more about my audience.
For research paper my audience is professors and other students. I more than likely think
of audience, while writing I am more formal and avoid grammatical errors and slang.
8. For texting I do not use prewriting techniques
For research papers, I create an outline, research articles and also organize my research
into different points throughout the paper.
9. I hope that UWRT 1102 is very helpful towards my progress in academic writing. I am
looking forward to learning not only about writing, but class participation, which is
something I have struggled with in the past. I believe this class will extend my skills even
further than UWRT 1101.
Text: Hey girl so I am in UWRT 2 & I think that itll help lots w/ writing. I cant wait to
talk more in class bc I am quiet in other classes. This class will totally help me more than
UWRT 1
