46 Demonstrate a practical understanding of wheels, gears and

levers by constructing devices in which energy is transferred to
produce motion.
3.Construct devices that use wheels and axles, and demonstrate and describe their use in:
model vehicles, pulley systems or gear systems.
4. Construct and explain the operation of a drive system that uses one or more of the
following: wheel-to-wheel contact a belt or elastic a chain cogs or gears.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Students will:
1. Construct devices that use gear systems.
2. Know how gear systems work.
3. Know how wheel-to-wheel contact systems work.

ASSESSMENTS
Key Questions:

How do gear systems work?

Conclusion

We have now learned what rollers, axles,

pulleys and gears do.
Today we are going to go through stations in
groups to construct gears, look at different
simulations on the IPads and answer some
questions in a booklet.
Body
Hand out the booklets.
Explain the stations and the booklet (7 different stations: 7 - 8
mins per station)
The stations instructions are all explained at the top of
each page.
Each page is titled according to what station it is
explaining.
All students will go through the instructions and
complete each page at each station.
If students complete the station they are on before we
switch groups they can work on a crossword and word
search that is at the back of their booklet.
Give students their groups. (6 groups of 3 & 1 group of

Clean up the stations, return computers to the computer cart.
Science duo tangs need to go back on the shelf.
Tomorrow we will go over the booklet as a
class. (If we are done the stations)
We will finish the stations tomorrow (if we
are not done the stations.)
