Transition: While students are engaging in small talk, I

will say Ahoy, mateys! which will grab their attention.
When I say go, I need everyone to stand at attention
with their toes on the green line! Ready? Go! Then, I
will salute so that students will freeze their bodies and
salute as well.
Set Induction: Good morning shipmates! Today we are
going to sail the seven seas. I am your captain, and we
are going to play a game called Aboard the Ship. Before
we get to sailing, its important that we know what our
mission is.
Learnable Piece: Our mission today is to focus on our
ability to listen, to follow instructions, and to use our
memory in order to properly complete specific tasks.
Presentation of New Material/Directions:
Now, because I am the captain, and you are all
members of my ship, when I shout an instruction you will
have to do what I say. If you forget what to do, or you do
the wrong thing, you will walk the plank, but then join the
group again to continue playing.
In order to walk the plank, you will start at the
back corner of the ship (one cone) and walk along
the line until you reach the other back corner of
the ship (another cone).
When I say To the ship, run to your right.
When I say To the island, run to the left.
When I say Front of the boat, run towards me.
When I say Back of the boat, run towards the
back of the boat.

When I say Hit the deck, lay on the floor as fast

as you can.
When I say Seasick, place your hands on your
knees and pretend to be sick.
When I say Mermaid, lie on your side and
pretend to be a mermaid.
When I say Row the boat, you have to get into a
group of three and pretend to row a boat. If you
cannot find two other people to be in your group,
that means you have to walk the plank, then
come back and rejoin the game.
When I say Captains coming, frees where you
are and salute. You may not move again until I
say at ease. Even if I give a different order, you
must remain at attention until I say the words at
ease.
Safety/Check for Understanding
To be safe, make sure you have lots of space
around you so you dont run into anyone, and be
aware of your surroundings.
Touch your head if you understand the directions,
or raise your hand if you have a question.
Transition: Everyone spread out and give yourself
some space.
Activity: Students spread out on space about half the
size of the gym.
To end the game: Last instruction will be Captains
coming because students have to freeze where they
are at.

Possible Modifications:
To increase difficulty: I would try to trick the students by
pointing in the opposite direction they are supposed to
be running. (Pointing to the left when I say to the ship!
instead of pointing to the right)
To decrease difficulty: Slow down instructions, keep
them simple.
Lesson Review:
Awesome!! Everyone worked very hard on the ship
today!
