LEVEL OF MASTERY
By the end of his or her initial training, the student teacher should be able to :

Answer to others for his or her actions by providing well-founded reasons.
How have I developed this competency during this course or professional seminar/field experience?

During my field experience, I often walked around from desk to desk while students completed individual
class work. I spent some time with each individual, allowing opportunity for students to ask questions they may
have been hesitant to ask, as well as provide students with appropriate attention and support. After such
occasions, a discussion unfolded between my CT and I, at which time I reported my observations and justified
any decisions concerning the learning and education of students. For example, during the course of my rounds of
a Secondary III science class, I noticed a boy who was really struggling with the work. I offered him assistance,
but also advised him to come to lunchtime tutorials for extra help. I later discussed this event and my actions with
my CT.
Every so often during my placement, my CT left me in charge of a class for a short period of time (5-10
minutes). This presented me with the opportunity to demonstrate sufficient responsibility in dealings with
students. In fact in my Student Teaching Formative Assessment form, completed by my field experience
supervisor Mr. J. Wilson, he wrote that I am sufficiently knowledgeable and capable that [I] am able to handle a
class. I could not have been more honoured to have received such an esteemed compliment.
