ACTION PLAN
To contribute to the goal of preparing reflective practitioners, student teachers will write an Action Plan at the end of first, second, and third field
experience with input from their cooperating teacher and/or the University supervisor. The Action Plan synthesizes each field experiences
evaluation, links each field experience to the next, establishes goals for improvement, and forms an agenda for discussion between the student
teacher, the cooperating teacher and University supervisor at the beginning of the subsequent field experience. For First Field Experience only
(excluding Physical Education students), the Action Plan will be completed during the co-requisite Professional Seminar course.

Student Number ___260472604_____

B.Ed. Program: _Concurrent B.Sc. & B.Ed. Secondary Science and Tech______ Field Experience: 2nd
I have shown thorough to advanced development in the following Professional Competencies developed
during this field experience:
-Teaching Competency 2: To communicate clearly in the language of instruction, both orally and in writing,
using correct grammar, in various contexts related to teaching.
-Teaching Competency 4: To pilot teaching/learning situations that are appropriate to the students concerned
and the subject content with a view to developing the competencies targeted in the programs of study
-Teaching Competency 9: To cooperate with school staff, parents, partners in the community and students in
pursuing the educational objectives of the school.
-Teaching Competency 11: To engage in professional development individually and with others.
-Teaching Competency 12: To demonstrate ethical and responsible professional behaviour in the
performance of his or her duties.
I would like to improve my skills in the following Professional Competencies developed during this field
experience:
-Teaching Competency 6: To plan, organize and supervise a class in such a way as to promote student
learning and social development.
-Teaching Competency 9: To cooperate with school staff, parents, partners in the community and students in
pursuing the educational objectives of the school.
-Teaching Competency 11: To engage in professional development individually and with others.
I will make use of the following strategies for improvement:
To work towards developing competency 6, for one of my remaining field experiences I will request to be
placed in a school that may have issues of classroom conduct which I will have to identify and follow-up
on. I would also like the opportunity to work with students with disabilities, where anticipating areas of the
lesson that students may struggle with will be of utmost importance.
In order to develop professional competency 9, as in my action plan for FE1, I would like the opportunity to
observe some parent-teacher interactions as well as to eventually (FE 3 & FE 4) meet with parents myself.
This can be done through additional observation within schools as I progress through the B.Ed. program.

27
Professional development (competency 11) will continue to be advanced individually by reviewing my
journal notes (taken during FE 1 & PS 1, and FE 2 & PS 2). I will also continue to conduct personal
research and literature reviews to stay up-to-date with the latest advances within the education profession.
McGill also offers a multitude of professional development seminars and workshops, which I will make
greater efforts to attend. I will also continue to discuss educational situations and observations with my
university peers, as we advance through our undergraduate careers together. Ultimately professional
development is never complete and should continue throughout ones career.
