Title of Lesson:

Five themes of Geography 6th and 7th

Content Area Standards: 6-G1.3.1 Use the fundamental themes


of geography (location, place, human environment interaction, movement,
region) to describe regions or places on earth.

Materials:

Magazines
Ipad/Computer
Paper
Posterboard
Pencil/Markers/Colored Pencils

Assessment:
I will be walking around and making sure people are on task and working
hard. At the end of the time period they will each explain to me what they
have so far.

Lesson Objectives:
Students will be able to define the 5 themes of geography. They will be able
to create a project of their choosing to display 5 themes of geography.

Anticipatory Set:
Good morning ladies and gentlemen! We have been talking about geography
for a few weeks now, so today we are going to look at the 5 different themes
in geography. You are going to be getting in groups and coming up with your
own way to show me how well you know these 5 themes.

Instructional Input:
As a class we will go over the 5 themes and describe what they are and
examples of each.

Guided Practice:
See 5 themes in pictures handout.

Independent Practice:
Students will then have about two class periods to work on this assignment
with their partner. They will be free to use magazines, poster board, ipads, or
computers.

Closure:
Students will come together at end and each have a chance to explain their
projects to the class and why they did what they did.

Multiple Intelligences/Learning Styles:


Interpersonal- The students will be working with me and the other students
and talking to both to make sure they are following along and understanding
what to do.
Intrapersonal- It will be up to the students to decide how they want to
present and design their project.
Visual Spatial- The students will create their own design for each theme.
They will have to visualize what they will put on each one.
