Title of Lesson: Climate Graphs 7th

Content Area Standards: 6-G3.1.1 Construct and analyze climate
graphs for two locations at different latitudes and elevations in the region to
answer geographic questions and make predictions based on patterns.

Materials:

Pencil
Geography Alive textbook
Climate Graph Worksheet
Graph Paper

Assessment: This is a two day lesson. I will be walking through very

slowly how to read and create these graphs. The entire lesson I will be
checking orally and visually

Lesson Objectives:

Students will be able to create climate graphs.

They will be able to define that the left side shows temperature and the right
side shows precipitation.

Anticipatory Set: Good morning class! How many of you can tell me
what climate is? So when I say climate graphs what do you think that
means? Correct it is a graph that tells you what the average temperature and
rainfall are year round. Today we are going to be looking in the book and
creating our own climate graphs.

Instructional Input: To start I will model for the students how to

read the climate graphs have students look in the book and choose a climate
graph they want to recreate. I will show them how to read from either side of
the graph and translate what they see onto their worksheets.

Guided Practice: I will instruct the students to choose a graph to look

at and write down the numbers for the temperature and precipitation. They
will do the first six months for each and then I will do a check to make sure
they all understand.

Independent Practice:

Once Im confident they all know what they

are doing they are free to record the rest of the numbers on the worksheet.
They will then take these numbers and make their own graph out of it.

Closure: After the second day we will come together at the end and I will
orally ask questions to the class about the graphs and the proper way to read
them.

Multiple Intelligences/Learning Styles:

Visualspatial- The students will see the assignment on the board and be
able to follow along and see exactly what I am writing and doing.
Verballinguistic- The students are expected to talk with me and give me
answers as I ask throughout the first part of the assignment.
Interpersonal- The students will be working with me and the other students
and talking to both to make sure they are following along and understanding
what to do.
