Matheson, David. "What Causes Male Homosexuality?" Center for Gender Wholeness. 17
Jan. 2013. Web. 21 Oct. 2015.
This article, found on the Center for Gender Wholenesss website, identifies eight
predisposing factors that are common in homosexual males. The author provides scientific
findings from the American Psychological Association and expands on each listing with his own
scientific opinion. The Center for Gender Wholeness is an organization, created by a
psychotherapist, whose aim is to guide homosexual males into changing their sexual orientation
back to heterosexual.
I found this article to be very interesting, and I believe I can pull a lot of useful
information from it. The article is a perfect example of an answer to the question of what causes
homosexuality for the side that believes sexual orientation can be changed. The author uses a
legitimate source to provide a guideline for his own opinions, so it is easy to separate facts from
opinion. There are two main sides to my research, one being the side in support for
homosexuality, and the side that believes in change. I know that this article is biased use to the
organization that wrote it. However, this is good because I will be able to compare its content to
other sources that lean towards to opposite side of the argument.
The source itself is credible, I know this because they pull direct citations from scientific
studies performed by the American Psychological Association (APA). I visited the APA website
to ensure all the information was true and unaltered. While all data in the article is accurate, the

evaluation of the data is very opinionated. After researching the author, I realized that the
origination who published the article aims to change sexual orientation of homosexual
individuals through therapy. The author is a psychotherapist who has worked with patients that
have been abused, traumatized, and addicted to sex. The site always references many Christian
organizations that provide help to those who do not want to be homosexual. I still consider this a
reputable source, realizing the bias of the article gives me a good perspective on the ideas of
those fighting against homosexuality.
Grant, Bob. "Zeroing in on the "Gay Gene"" The-scientist.com. LabX Media Group. Web.
25 Oct. 2015.
This articles purpose was to add new evidence to a study performed almost two decades
ago. The original study that this article expands upon was conducted in search of a gene that was
thought to be the cause for homosexuality in men. The study performed two decades ago had
promising results, however it was performed on a small subject group, thus its finding were not
considered credible. In a new study, of over 1,000 gay brothers, researchers have found more
evidence that there is a single gene that is common among all gay men.
This article supports the nature side of homosexuality. The big debate with homosexuality
is whether nature, nurture, or a combination of the two, is the cause for homosexuality. This
article provides scientific evidence that supports the nature side of the argument. The information
in the article provides a solid contrast to the ideas of those who believe homosexuality is the

result of nurture. In addition to this, the article also provides evidence that homosexuality is not
something that can be changed, contrary to some beliefs.
I believe the information in this article is credible because the majority of its content is
factual rather than opinion. The website the article was published on is an online magazine for
science professionals that provides the most recent studies of topics such as: cell and molecular
biology, genetics, and other life-science fields. Though all information provided is supported by
scientific studies, there is still a bias. The articles published by this website are those from the
viewpoint of science, which generally demands a definite answer for the question being asked.
The problem with this is that the question being asked in this case, does not have one solid
answer. The author is attempting to blame one gay gene as the reason for all homosexuality,
however there is not one factor that causes homosexuality.
Graves, Jenny. "Born This Way? An Evolutionary View of 'gay Genes'" The Conversation.
Web. 25 Oct. 2015.
This article provides a different viewpoint on the topic of the Gay Gene, than previous
scientific studies. The article suggests that the Gay Gene shared by homosexuals, is actually
either a male or female-loving gene. The idea is that both males and females have genes that
cause them to love the other sex. The author suggests that homosexuality is the result of a male
simply receiving the male-loving gene instead of the female-loving gene. The author also
uses biology and natural selection to support her ideas which is unusual for, natural selection is
generally a point used to oppose homosexuality. She suggests that the male-loving gene found

in homosexual males, when passed onto female offspring, predisposes them to have more
children at a younger age.
This article gives another interpretation of how homosexuality may be caused. I found
this article to be very helpful by offering another side to the argument of a Gay Gene. While
still supporting nature to be a significant cause of homosexuality, the authors viewpoint is
different than many other scientist who study this field. I will be able to use the information
provided to compare the beliefs of scientist on the purpose of the gay gene.
I believe the information within this article is credible for the article was written by a
professor of Genetics. Not only is the author a credible source, but she does not make any of her
own conclusions. The authors objective is not to challenge recent discoveries, but to offer a
different interpretation of the discoveries that recent science has made.
Hopkins, John. "John Hawkins - 5 Truths You're Not Allowed To Say About Gays In
America." Townhall.com. Web. 25 Oct. 2015.
This is an opinion based article that identifies some of the truths that are overlooked
within homosexuality. The author expresses his frustrations with what is considered politically
correct when addressing homosexuality. He shares his beliefs of how society deals with
homosexuality, and how he believes we should deal with homosexuality. In his opinion,
homosexuality is generalized and protected for fear of offending someone.

I included this article as a source because it is a perfect example of how homosexuality is

viewed from an outside standpoint. The author believes that society has caters to homosexuals
feelings. In his eyes, political correctness has caused society to address homosexuality in an
unhealthy way. The author provides his opinion on problems associated with homosexuality that
society prefers to ignore. This is an important source for my research because it is a strong
opinion from the side opposing homosexuality.
I believe this source is credible because it is merely the opinion of a citizen within the
U.S. There is no factual information to be skewed or incorrect within this piece. The website this
article was published on, Townhall.com, is a conservative news and political commentary source.
The views expressed on the site are not surprising for they tend to agree with the conservative
nature of the site. The information obtained through this source provides a solid example of
conservative views. With further research I will be able to contrast my findings on this site, with
the viewpoints of those who consider themselves liberal.
Rymel, Tim. "Can You Really Change Your Sexual Orientation? -." The Good Men
Project. 14 June 2015. Web. 25 Oct. 2015
This article is written from the viewpoint of a male who struggled with his own sexual
orientation throughout his life. The author reviews a book, Then & Now: How My Sexual
Attractions Have Changed, that claims to be a guide to changing ones sexual orientation. Within
the article, the author breakdowns several points made by the book, and evaluates their

legitimacy. The authors purpose seems to be to comfort those dealing with their sexual
orientation, and to disprove the need to change sexual orientation to fit the norm.
This article offers a perfect perspective of how the pressures of society affect those
dealing with their sexual orientation. The author discusses many misconceptions associated with
homosexuality and criticizes common practices of conversion therapy. This piece is very
personal, it is the expression of one homosexuals emotions. This viewpoint is important to
include in my sources for it is necessary in order to understand what it is like living in todays
society as a homosexual.
This source is credible for it is an opinion based article from an author who has fought
with his own sexual orientation. Had the author not been homosexual himself, I would find it
difficult to believe everything he said. After researching the author, Tim Rymel, I found that he
was a leader in the ex-gay movement throughout the 90s before coming out as homosexual in
2008. This is significant information because the ex-gay movement of the 90s supported
conversion therapy and encourage heterosexual relationships. Tim realized that these practices
did not do any good in the long run from his own experiences. He changed is stance on the topic
after he came out as gay, and now fights for homosexual relations.
