Whole class activities

Describe what they were doing for each activity if it


was used in the class
Morning assembly: The teacher gathered the
students and formed two lines. She stood in front of
them and sang along to the national anthem. After
that she guided them to their class.
Circle time and morning routine: The children came to
class after the assembly and sat on the circle, waiting
for the teacher. They started the morning routine by
asking about the weather and the day as well as
counting the kids with the helping hand. All the kids
participated in the circle time.

Independent activities

Area time: The teacher told certain children to go to


certain areas to avoid noise. The children were
assigned tasks within their areas.
Picture matching: The students were divided into 4
groups and they had an emotion on an A3 paper and
smaller cards which had multiple emotions and they
had to match the emotion on the card with the
emotion on the A3 paper
Tracing: All the children were required to trace over
the number 1 in their textbooks. The teacher and I
helped assisting the weaker children and encourage
them to work.
Crafting: The teacher called the students one by one
into the art area and helped them create a mask then
pin it to the board behind them.

1. How does the teacher make sure the students are prepared for the
day?

She made sure they had their name tags on the board and then she counted
the kids. She tried exciting them by modeling their morning exercises and
singing and dancing before beginning their routine.
2. How many tasks do they complete in one hour?
The teacher had around 3 tasks completed per hour normally, but it differs
sometimes depending on the childrens activity.
3. Did the teacher use a variety of different types of learning activities?
Yes she did. Sometimes she used modeling the activity, sometimes she used
tracing and writing. Some times she played a video to explain the lesson to the
children.
4. What materials did they use?
She used colors, papers, glues, scissors, blocks, storybooks, pictures,
powerpoints, videos, textbooks and many others.
5. Were the instructions, explanations and questions clear and appropriate
for the students needs? Give examples.
Yes. For example, after finishing the tracing on their text books, the teacher
asked them to take turns write the number 1 on the board. The children made
no noise during the process and they were all able to do it.
6. What strategies did the teacher use to ensure the students understood
what they are about to do?
The teacher asked the students to write the number 1 on the board to ensure
that they knew it. She also asked them to draw it on air. Moreover, she
checked their textbooks and rewarded them for their excellent work.
7. How does s/he make sure all students are involved and attentive?
The children took turns while answering. She asked different children to
answer the same question to make sure that they all understand the lesson
and that theyre all paying attention to her.
8. What signals can you identify that the children have had enough?
A child started distracting himself with his shoe and he kept kicking the
ground. Another child started daydreaming and looked very tired.
9. What signals do children show that indicate they are proud of their
achievement or disappointed?
The proud children asked showed the teacher their work while smiling and
asked her to help them pin it up the board behind her, While the children who
were disappointed did not want their work pinned and they wanted to redo
their mask.

How do children demonstrate their frustration?
They throw tantrums and cry a lot. Some children express anger and start
hitting other students who were near them.

Do the children observe others?
Yes, they do, and they copy each other a lot. One kid started playing with his
shoe during the class time, which lead the child sitting next to him to take
interest in his own shoes as well.

Do the children interact with another child during the task?
Yes. They share their opinion and ask for others opinions. They start
conversations and even encourage one another.
13.
What do they say or do while completing the tasks?
I have heard a lot of You can do this. and Look at what I did! and some
children patted other childrens backs to encourage them.
