Description of artifact and how the artifact meets the standard:
I have had absences during my first two years of teaching for a handful of purposes. Each time I have an
absence I am responsible for writing plans for my substitute. I do not always know who the substitute will be
or what their experience is. I had two years of experience as a substitute myself, so I feel that I have a strong
understanding of what to include in the plans I leave for a guest teacher. I also feel that I have a level of
respect for guest teachers because I have been in that position. I trust that these teachers have earned a degree
the same as me and I have confidence in them teaching lessons in all content areas.

Reflection on artifact:
Thanks to my experience as a guest teacher I include information on my plans that not all teachers may think
to do. I include information about my associate, any absences I anticipate, and information about volunteers
coming in for the day. I also feel that as I have often have the same guest teacher(s) in my classroom I am able
to adjust my plans to this person. For example, if a teacher has been in fourth grade frequently and knows our
routine I do not have to explain in as much detail. As I said before though, this can change and a different
person may be in the classroom so I am always sure to keep that in mind.
Going forward I will continue to write plans efficiently and to the point. I do not want a guest teacher to feel
overwhelmed by multipage plans. I also will continue to have all needed materials labeled and piled on my
desk. I want the guest teacher to have everything they need from the beginning to the end of the day ready for
them on my desk. I organize the materials in the order they will be needed for the day. I will also make an
effort to talk to substitutes in the building on information they feel is helpful and important to include in these
plans.
