My Renaissance
Inspiration is found everywhere when a person is able to analyze the world in the right
perception. Whether that is having an outsiders perspective or insiders; as an intellectual human
being, one has the opportunity to become more knowledgeable from their surroundings. Human
relations along with society, personal experiences, and ideologies are all very influential factors
in structuring the innumerable methods of intellectual sociological development. A recent topic
expanding on a persons intellectual development that has lead to a form of a personalrenaissance is: A leader is taught, and not born by Mr. Peter Drucker.
Insider: a person who belongs to a group or organization and has special knowledge
about it. Outsider: a person who does not belong to or is not accepted as part of a particular
group or organization(Merriam-Webster). A general description of Mr. Drucker is that he is a
businessman, and a philosopher that has offered major benefits to organizations all over the
world. In other words Mr. Drucker is an insider to the world of business. As for myself I was
born in, and involved with a variety of Californias differentiated culture, however primarily
growing of age in Utah I have reason to believe that I posses an outsiders perspective of the
society of Utah. Throughout grade school and attending church with my grandmother (My legal
Guardian) I made constant adolescent observations of my surroundings in Utah. Friends and
acquaintances also lead me to perceive that the majority of Utahans had large functional and
successful families, which put myself at a disadvantage in education and future career

opportunities. I supported this theory by correlating personal connections that I currently did not
posses with being dependently raised upon my retired grandmother. This undereducated, and
pessimistic assumption of my lack of personal connections, and my grandmother not
contributing the same opportunities as other parental figures had for their offspring; ultimately
attributed to a discouragement in furthering my education. This lasted for years due to constant
perceived reinforcements of institutionalized and religious peers words and actions. Politics
involved with affiliation in high school sports, and friends occupations had also contributed in
my assumption that I was at a disposition. After years of dwelling upon this, and observing
others success I was convinced that the old saying of: its not what you know, but whom you
know held absolute truth regarding my situation.
Currently I have moved out of my guardians house, and into a one bedroom apt along
with my girlfriend. It has been two years, and within this timeframe I have discovered that as an
adult there are constant tribulations, responsibilities and financial obligations that one must
manage in order to keep composure as well as avoid a financial crisis. First and for most there
are bills to pay, which requires a person to have an occupation or source of income. This alone
has consumed countless hours of my life. Along with part time work, I have been a full time
student, and with two completed semesters at S.L.C.C. I plan on finishing my third within the
next two weeks. As time passes I move closer and closer to acquiring a business degree, and am
expanding my knowledge everyday. This knowledge has accounted for a substantial amount of
successful wealth management as unexpected bills have accrued.
Until I turned 18 I was dependent upon, and insured through my Grandmothers health
insurance, however as soon as I was of age I was removed from the plan by law. Right before my
20th Birthday, which is in the middle of October I had an accident in which I was rushed to Salt

Lake Regional Medical Centers E.R. on August 1, 2015. After multiple x-rays, my doctor, Dr.
Thurman classified that my ankle was indeed broken in three places and was going to require
surgery. On August 8, 2015, Dr. Thurmans classification of my injury was confirmed by another
Medical Professional, Dr. Schaeffer, and through another set of x-rays. Since my E.R. visit on
August 1, 2015, I have received: appointments with specialists, visiting bills, medical supply
bills, prescribed medication, crutches, splints, etc. As most are aware, medical bills can be
extremely pricey, and often lead to debt. Mind you this happened at the start of my third semester
as a full time student. Since the time of the accident, I have yet to take out any financial loans to
cover my expenses of school, living, and injury. How is this possible one might ask? My
proposed abasement is that it was possible because I had stopped being dependent on other
people to complete my obligations, and had decided to primarily dedicate my time to receive the
knowledge that is required to have an organized life. By being able to correlate prior
undereducated assumptions with present knowledge and know how accrued from personal
experiences and S.L.C.C. and society as a whole has altered my understanding of the world in a
marvelous way. While now being able to engage in a positive thought process, and implement
critical thinking I am now confident that a leader is taught, and not born. This Personal
Renaissance has propelled my drive to obtain a position of management within a company in the
near future, and consistently progress financially.
