Network Interviews Analysis Paper

Abstract
This paper serves as a quick analysis of key points from two interviews conducted by
myself between Dr. Darshak Patel and Lori Reeber. From these interviews, the synthesizing of
general concepts is discussed as are the impacts and changes these place on my personal longterm and short-term goals.

Network Interviews Analysis Paper

Introduction
Through two informational interviews I was able to not only understand what is
necessary to achieve my goals set before me, but also set new goals and understand what lies
ahead of me. The first interview was with Dr. Darshak Patel, a professor of economics at the
University of Kentucky. The second interview was with Lori Reeber, a Brand Strategist at

Sterling Rice Group, a company based in Denver, CO that manages advertising for domestic and
international corporations. These interviews both represent two different aspects of the business
field that I wish to pursue; Finances.
Body
In the first interview with Darshak Patel, we discussed the history of his introduction into
economics and teaching. He explained that he found his love of economics through accounting
and love of teaching through experience. While Ive never considered teaching before this point
hearing him discuss the passions he had, and the unlikely turns he pursued, it makes ones self
consider keeping an open mind as too what profession theyll pursue. I have been strongly
leaning towards a finance degree, and from his interview I realize that there is a strong chance
that it might not be the profession I ultimately end up in. He stated that I never knew I wanted
to teach, but then once I started teaching and I could see that I could engage with students and
make an impact in different students lives. I just wanted to do more of it, (Patel, 2015.) This
statement shows that Dr. Patel had little intentions of teaching and that I can understand that I
might not have intentions now of where I might be in the future. This helped me understand that
my goals should be more fluid and that while

In the second interview with Mrs. Reeber, she expressed a struggle that she had obtaining
a job and finding her career after she graduated college. This influenced my goals and made me
understand that in order to achieve my goals I wont just have to be hard working and determined
but also tenacious and willing to continue in the face of failure. Mrs. Reeber stated It was really
difficult to find work and I just sent out a ton of resumes to every job that I could find, even the
ones I really didn't want to do, (Reeber, 2015). She said that being incredibly determined and
hardworking were the only things that allowed her to find a career during the recession of 2008
(Reeber, 2015). It was because of these statements that I decided to think on my goals and how
badly I want to succeed, that even though I need to keep flexible and fluid goals, I must be
unyielding in my pursuit of results.
Conclusion
From these interviews, I generally learned that I must be unyielding in my pursuit of my
goals and determined to reach success, but fluid in how or where my goals lead me. While I am
avidly following my interest in Finances, there is a strong chance I might not end up there. Dr.
Darshak Patel, a university level professor, had no intentions of teaching, let alone economics.
Yet he is passionate about what he does and thoroughly enjoys it. It is this passion that I desire
from all the goals I lay before me, and that I constantly search for. From these informational
interviews I have not only learned how I might adjust my goals but also a little about
professionals in the business field.
