Persuasive Speech: Audience Assessment
Specific Goal:
My audience will agree that recycling is important to the community and will think
twice about throwing that soda can in the trash.
Type of Claim: This is a claim of fact.
Ethos: Primary Ethos:
a) Competence: I have research why it is so important to try to fill up those blue bins.
b) Fairness: Some people have the time to recycle, where others may not but can still
learn why they should make time to recycle.
Secondary Ethos: I will cite 3 authoritative references in my speech.
Audience Assessment: Most of my audience members will probably have an attitude toward my
proposition that is highly favorable.

Adaptation to Audience Attitude:


a. Common ground: First I will ask, do you think that it is important to protect our natural resources
for ourselves and future resources?
b. Latitude of acceptance: Because if you recycle you are saving natural resources such as trees.
Today I will give you a few reasons to why recycling is something that you should involve yourself
in.
Baby Steps: By providing facts on why recycling is important and how it affects us as a community.

Introduction
Hook: Lets all look at recycling like exercising. We know that we should do it, some of us do, do it and
some of us dont do it at all. But there are lots of reasons why you should try to make an effort to
recycle as much as possible.

Proposition (or Hint at Proposition): If you havent been active about recycling your waste, here are
some reasons why we should recycle.

1. To reduce landfill

3.and it good for the economy
Transition: Recycling will help keep our landfills from overflowing. We are running out of space for
landfills, especially near the cities.

Conclusion
Since I have shared a few things on how recycling affects us as a community, within our land, air, and
providing jobs for our economy. So today when you get the junk mail recycle it. It says on the recyclingrevolution website just one large newspaper would save around 75,000 trees.
