Common Core:
Oral Vocabulary
L. 5.c Identify real-life connections between words and their use (e.g., note places at
home that are cozy).
Phonemic Awareness
RF. 1.2.b Orally produce single-syllable words by blending sounds (phonemes),
including consonant blends.
RF. 1.2.c Isolate and produce initial, medial vowel and final sounds (phonemes) in
spoken single- syllable words.
Phonics and Spelling
RF. 1.3 Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding
words.

Unit Outcome:
TLW be able to take their knowledge about what is around us at school, and write
a short paragraph.
TLW use adjectives to describe what is around us at school.
TLW be able to recognize what an adjective is in a sentence.
Lesson Outcome: (weekly)
I can look around my school and be able to recognize: people, places, and things.
I can look at a sentence and be able to recognize adjectives.
Rational/Purpose of Lesson:
The students will be exposed to adjectives. They will be able to take this knowledge
and begin writing adjectives will in their writings. They also will be continuing
working on their knowledge of beginning letter sounds.

Assessment:
Formative assessment: by walking around looking at the students Adjectives
papers. As well as asking questions and having students answer. Also, the students
will be getting homework packets the fallowing week working on adjective and
stories.

Literacy Book (pgs. 115a, 116-117)
Adjective Papers for students-pencils-clipboards
Introduction/Grabber:
In one word I want you to tell me about your weekend. Take one minute and think to
yourself. I want just one word that describes how your weekend was the one word
I would use is: peaceful. (Now its students turn to share their word). Today I am
going to introduce adjectives to you. Adjectives are describing words.
Procedures:

3. Discuss Amazing Words, pg. 115a
Objective: Ask and Answer questions about key details in a text
4. Phonemic Awareness, pg. 116-117, practice initial, medial, and final phonemes
5. Phonics, pg. 117a: Introduce consonant /r/
6. Text-Based Comprehension, pg. 117d, Plot
7. Read Aloud story : Early for School
Objective: Describe characters, setting, and major events in a story using key details.
8. Review: Sentences with Adjectives

10. 9:45am Small Cooperative Groups
11. 11:00am Writing, Unit 2, Small Moments
Objectives: Writers use mentor texts to plan and craft their writing.
Homework:
Weekly homework packets are given out on Monday. Due either Friday or the
following Monday. Students will read a story and have to answer questions. Review
this week: what is a noun?

Closure:
What is an adjective? Pull a students name and have them come up to the front
and answer. Then I will tell the students about their writing and have them go and
practice writing adjectives in their own writing.
