Dear Professor Intawiwat,

The following letter has been written to give you an overall reflection of my work
completed within this semester.
The first writing assignment that I completed this semester was my This I Believe
paper. In this literary work I included information about my past and how I have come to
hold the philosophy to never let anyones perception of me change the way I feel about
myself. I spoke about being bullied in high school and suffering from depression and
how my favorite quote from Kurt Cobain They laugh at me because I am different, but I
laugh at them because they are all the same. influenced me to accept myself in spite of
what others think of me. The audience of my paper included anyone who was willing to
read it but specifically anyone who was or is currently being bullied. Maybe from reading
my story they could also realize that what other people think of them is irrelevant and
not to let their identity be smothered by it. In this paper I was trying to explain to the
reader my belief in a way that could be related to emotionally and perhaps leave an
impact on them with my story. For this Essay in particular I did quite a few revisions as
my rough draft did not include any past tense verbs as well as lacked a thesis. Through
the process of revising my paper I found a solid thesis and was able to narrow down the
most important events in my story to finish with a concise yet meaningful paper.
The second major writing assignment that I completed this semester is my Extended
Inquiry. Throughout this assignment I explored the sociological and philosophical
understanding of who I am in relation to the world around me and included my own
interpretation of who I think that I am and why. The assignment included a proposal in

which I explored my topic and narrowed down what I would write about. It included an
annotated bibliography in which I cited all of my sources and gave a reflection on each
individual source. The assignment also included an essay and reflection of my findings.
After I completed all my research I came to the understanding that I am the impact that I
leave behind and the contribution I make toward the life experience of those whose
paths I cross. The Audience of this paper was really anyone who may desire to read it.
The writing style was informal and both I and we were used throughout the essay. The
purpose of the essay was to thoroughly provide sociological and philosophical
understandings of who we are in this world and to expound upon my own understanding
of who I believe that I am based off of my research. The essay evolved heavily through
its revisions. In fact, I completely changed topics halfway through my first proposal
because once I discovered the topic I really wanted to go in depth upon I felt there was
no other choice.
I found the first assignment to be the most fun but overall I found the extended inquiry
to be most intriguing. I learned a huge amount of information regarding my identity while
researching for my extended inquiry as well as completed much introspection. I feel like
my perception has expanded so much after finishing my extended inquiry and was able
to discover philosophies to apply to my own life. I knew nothing about philosophy before
this project and now I cannot know enough. I cant wait to take a philosophy class when
I transfer.
The assignment I found to be most difficult in this class was completing my annotated
bibliography because I have a very hard time finding substantial sources.

My writing has changed for the better this semester. I have learned how to write more
concisely and explain my ideas in a way that is easier to comprehend. In completing my
extended inquiry I have learned to stay with the main idea of my paper and not go off on
too many irrelevant tangents. Lastly, it is overall a lot easier for me to complete a writing
assignment then at the start of the semester.
My participation in this class was overall well. At times I did not respond to questions
because I have anxiety about speaking in front of people. However I always payed
attention and I attended almost every single class. I read the chapters and often led the
group activities that we completed in the beginning of the semester and helped out
other classmates whenever I could. I also participated in every single peer edit and did
my best to offer the most informative critiques that I could for my classmates.
In conclusion, I have grown both as a person and as a writer in this class. This semester
I was able to improve my writing skills and gain knowledge about my beliefs and my
identity. After this class has ended I believe that I have more confidence in my writing
skills and that I will carry these skills with me for the rest of my academic career.
With best regards,
Christina Caro
