Domestic Violence and its Consequence

Domestic violence is intentional behavior of family members to harm or potentially harm

the physical, mental, economic relations with other members of the family. Domestic violence
occurs in many different forms of coercion, such as beating, torturing, injuring the victim, rape,
psychological abuse, isolation of victims before family relationships as well as social, economic
siege, control money ... these acts of violence that is causing negative impacts on society, leading
to instability in the development of family and society. From the perspective of sociology,
domestic violence leaves the following social impacts:
First, violence in any form can leave a negative impact on physical health, not only
spiritual but also the victims of the other family members. These negative effects were added
burden on national health systems. In serious cases (victims and injured children, crisis or
disease being transmitted HIV, unwanted pregnancies ...), burdened with the national health
system is enormous. The studies conducted in the United States, Nicaragua and Zimbabwe
showed that the percentage of women with domestic violence require medical services higher
than with normal women.(1). Condemning actions may not help much though, and therefore the
government should enact strict laws against violence cases. Women's organizations or society
should encourage and mobilize violences victims to let them have the courage to speak up to
protect themselves as well as the ones in their family. For countries with high violence rates, the
solution against violence should perform more powerful and strictly rather than just deter.
Second, domestic violence against women negatively impact the workforce and also
affect economic activities. A 2005 study of female employees in Maine who experienced
domestic violence found that: 98 % had difficulty concentrating on work tasks; 96 % reported
that domestic abuse affected their ability to perform their job duties; 87 % received harassing
phone calls at work; 78 % reported being late to work because of abuse; and 60 % lost their jobs

due to domestic abuse (2). A study in India estimated, for cases of domestic violence against
women, victims had an average stay of 7 days. Another study conducted in Nicaragua showed
that the income of women who are victims of family violence, 46% lower than the income of the
average woman. (3). Mentally and physically hurt can harm every aspect, not just labor
efficiency. Therefore, encouragement and time is the best solution can help the victims to
overcome difficulties. Companies should give the victim time to rest. Moreover, the company
leaders should also deploy employees to motivate, ask and more concerned with their colleagues
than to criticize them for their ability to work.: empathy always can heal the lesions and trauma.
Third, domestic violence against women of the burden on social welfare systems:
Domestic violence poses request help and protect the victims were women and children with
welfare system national associations. For example, to protect the women and children who are
victims of violence in the family, need to build a system of shelter facilities for them .... Because
domestic violence is often linked associated with family breakdown; removing children; the
situation of children lacking carers, nurturing; Children with fetal condition; victims of HIV and
sexual diseases, orphans should burden the social welfare system does not stop at providing
shelter but in the long term also includes the construction of nurturing establishments, physical
rehabilitation, mentally for the victims as well as policies and other mechanisms to resolve social
problems arising. All pressure on the social welfare system of the country that normally always
in a state already overloaded. For poor countries, this really is a big problem. It is time to giving
a hand to poor people or another way is tax. But, things can not just settle with money, people
in society should take action to help those in need. This work not only reduce the burden on
society but also contribute to a civilized life, less dangerous. Not only citizens but even the state,
government, the national treasury should be spent on more useful things than the war or what

not necessary, for instance, 5 months ago, Vietnamese news was publishing the news about a
poor province in Vietnam, the chairman gave an idea of building a monument to cost about $ 6
million during the life of people need some help.
Fourth, domestic violence against women also taking its burden on the education system.
Domestic violence can cause students - the direct victims or have witnessed the mother is a
victim of domestic violence - psychological disorders and the decline in learning. The research
on this issue shows, the percentage of students dropping out of school because of domestic
violence are often very high. In the absence of dropouts, deteriorating education and personality
disorder of the student is the victim (depression, and in some cases, harassment or violent
behavior with teachers and the school others ...) caused to the school no small trouble. In some
countries in the world, the school must hire more teachers or psychologists to assist students who
are victims or have to live in an environment of domestic violence. I've seen many cases, some
wills - every day go to school and learning - has been turned off when they are witnessed in the
broken family or the victims of the domestic violence. Youth not think thoroughly as adults, they
get emotionally overwhelmed, even do foolish things. Children need special attention when they
are the future of the country. We should exercise more and be counseled than neglect them.
Beside the family, teachers, friends are always their greatest shelter. Even more, we should apply
the lessons of ethics, compassionate, respectful to children to not let them come into the way that
they've been experiencing. For some families, teaching children to appreciate other people is
extremely necessary. People, nobody are perfect and integrity so that we shouldnt laugh at their
flaws to make them bear the humiliation.

Fifth, domestic violence against women and also a burden on the system of the judiciary.
This is understandable because the law of most countries in the world have classified the forms
of domestic violence (in the range, to varying degrees) are violations of law and therefore, each
While acts of violence occur, the judicial authorities will be "in the" for investigation,
prosecution and trial. In countries where the complex legal procedures, such as the US, the
process and the investigation and adjudication of general litigation, litigation relating to domestic
violence against women in particular spend a lot of time and resources, not only material
resources of the judicial authorities that the whole society. In addition, the burden of the judicial
system in this regard is also shown in the right-custodial, management and rehabilitation of those
who commit acts of domestic violence (in severe cases).
Domestic violence does not only have consequences for the victims but for other family
members, especially children. Domestic violence in general and violence against women in
particular have a very bad impact on the development of both physical and spiritual, moral and
intellectual children. Studies have shown that domestic violence causes children Depression,
fear, insomnia, lack of confidence, frustration, mental disorders, depression ... Domestic violence
also adversely affect learning outcomes, life skills, social integration, the capacity to solve the
problem ... of children ... According to UNICEF, there are about 275 million children are living
in domestic violence, suffered container exploitation of the physical, mental and sexual both
parents as well as guardians. Forms of violence that girls suffer are diverse, including sexual
violence. Many studies have shown that as many as 40-60% of sexual abuse cases occur in
families targeted victims were girls under 15 years old. A study in the Netherlands recently even
said that up to 45% of victims of sexual violence in the home are children under 18, of which
girls accounted for a higher proportion than boys. (4)

In Vietnam, according to a survey in eight provinces of the Association for Women in

2008, with 23% of families surveyed have acts of physical violence; 30% of families with
violence on sex; 25% of respondents with family violence on women's spirit which is accounted
for 97% of victims. Domestic violence impacts and severely affected families - stable nuclei of
society. Domestic violence has many broken families, divorce, separation... According to the
investigation by the Center for Gender and Development Studies, violence has broken families
accounted for 49.7%. Statistics from the Supreme People's Court also shows us the serious
consequences of family violence: 1998 55 419 divorces, of which 28 686 cases of violence, 52%,
1999 52 774 divorces in which 29 751 cases of violence, 56%; in 2000 there were 51,361
divorces in which violence 32 164, up 62%; The average of 5 years from 2000 to 2005 there
were 352,000 divorces there were 39,730 divorces due to domestic violence (representing
53.1%).(5). Domestic violence is a big problem, it is without exception. But when we talk about
violence, at first we would think of womankind. They are the ones who suffer the losses more
than anybody else. Not only physical and mental but also of sexual abuse. therefore, that not only
relatives but also outsiders, should always protect the them. They really need the protection.
Domestic violence in Vietnam also increased the number of children in conflict with law.
The statistics of the Procuracy Supreme People in 2008 showed that 71% of minors is illegal
because it is not cared for properly. Cause guilty of minors come from families: 8% of children
whose parents sinned divorce, 49% complained about their treatment by their parents. According
to survey data, 2209 students of the reformatory, up to 49.81% of them were treated to live in
harsh, brutal, cruel parents. Some children were released hit 23% (6 times hit mother); with
stepmother, stepfather captured 20.3%.

Domestic violence leaves many serious consequences to society and family for many
aspects The elimination of domestic violence is not the sole responsibility of anybody that
requires the cooperation of all levels and sectors, socio-political organizations and countries in
the prevention of domestic violence. To prevent this situation, we not only deter and using our
voices, we must apply strong solution against those who use violence in their family. Education
human dignity is also considered the most indispensable. Not only member of the family care for
each other but also from outside should protect and encourage them to overcome those pains.
