Dear Dr. Bruce,
The purpose of this letter is to show and explain my documents, which I have put
into this portfolio that demonstrates how I accomplished mastering the Student Learning
Objectives (SLOs). Many writing assignments were given throughout the semester for
English 301, but I have chosen to put one peer review rubric of the original editorial,
another peer review to someone else, original editorial, and my revised editorial into my
portfolio. I have presented my two peer review rubrics of the original editorial as my
weakest work and my revised editorial as my strongest work. As I present the work, I will
talk about what the procedure was for them. I will also mention how and where I made
mistakes in my editorial and where I fixed the mistakes to show the improvement of it. I
stated which SLO was done in each work and how the SLO was used. These writing
assignments will also demonstrate how I have improved my writing skills.
The first document I will present will be a peer review rubric of the original
editorial that was filled out by one of my peers. They read through my editorial and filled
out the rubric according to how well the paper was written. They pointed out my mistakes
to help me better my paper. Some of the suggestions my peer had given me for my paper
were to make the people I presented to sound more credible. Another thing they pointed
out was to make clear where the counterarguments were. The student learning objectives
that best fits this document is rhetorical focus because this was informal and its purpose
was to comment on my work and help me with my paper. Another SLO for this
assignment was collaboration except this collaboration consisted of getting feedback
from someone else.
The second document I will demonstrate will be a peer review rubric I filled out
for one of my peers. For this assignment, I had to read someone elses editorial and look
onto the rubric to see where their editorial fell upon and marked the boxes that best fit the
work they had done. I also gave suggestions and comments about their work on the
rubrics that way they knew where they could fix their mistakes and better their paper.
Some of the comments I put were for her to make her arguments stronger, as well to fix
her spacing and the design of her captions. Rhetorical focus also fits as an SLO just as the
previous document. Another SLO is collaboration; I collaborated on helping to improve
my peers writing skills by critiquing their written work.

The third document is the original editorial with comments from the instructor.
This had been submitted and was revised by the instructor, who put comments throughout
my paper to let me know where I needed to fix my mistakes and where I needed to add
some more information. One of her comments was for me to put in the beginning of my
editorial was to restate my opinion in my thesis. She also pointed out towards my third
paragraph to make another argument and put research facts. Another comment she put
throughout my paper was to add numbers of how much water was being wasted in order
to prove my case. The student learning objective for this document was also collaboration
just like the previous documents.
The last document is the revised editorial, which demonstrates my final work. In
this paper I presented organized paragraphs, images with captions and citations, and lots
of claims and evidence to persuade the reader. After looking through the comments from
the peer review rubric and the original editorial. I went back to the editorial and corrected
the mistakes I had done. In this revised editorial for the first paragraph I restated my
opinion in my thesis to make sure that my point of view was given. Another thing that I
fixed throughout my paper was adding the numbers of how much water was being wasted
to help support my case with evidence. I fixed the third paragraph by adding research
facts and I also moved some of my paragraphs around to have a better organization. The
SLOs that best fit this document are rhetorical focus, ethical citation, persuasion,
organization, and academic language and design. All these SLOs were presented
throughout my improved writing skill document.
Sincerely,
Cristal Meza
