Discrimination has been a huge issue in our society for a very long time.
Protests, rallies and civil rights movements have all been orchestrated to try and
end discrimination, as well as the addition of several amendments to the U.S.
Constitution. Although plenty of action to end this injustice has been taken,
discrimination is still an issue today, and affects millions of people.
One way discrimination can affect people in a negative way is by not giving
them an equal opportunity to be employed. Many people complain that they did not
receive certain jobs or positions due to their gender, race, nationality or many other
reasons. This is not only unfair to these people, but is illegal and can affect a
persons morale and esteem. In my opinion, I believe that companies and
authorities need to step in and punish those who discriminate in the hiring process
to stop discrimination and give everyone an equal opportunity for employment.
Another way discrimination affects people is by causing people to perceive a
certain race, color or nationality in a negative light. A strong example of this can be
seen today by the actions of Presidential candidate Donald Trump. After the events
of September 11, 2001, Muslims have been seen as dangerous and have been
stereotyped as extremist terrorists, even the innocent ones making an honest living.
In the past few months, a terrorist group named ISIS has claimed responsibility for
many terrorist attacks and random killings, and peoples irrational fear of Muslims
has grown. Presidential candidate Donald Trump recently proposed a bill that would

ban Muslims from entering the U.S. and would remove most of the Muslims already
living here as well. This is discrimination in its purest form and goes directly against
the U.S. Constitution, as it is based on stereotypes and will negatively affect
thousands of innocent people solely based on the actions of a few extremists. Due
to his actions and comments about this topic, Trump has lost many supporters and
is being viewed as racist and unfit to be a President, as his proposal goes against
everything America stands for.
In conclusion, although many actions have been taken to end discrimination,
it is still a huge issue that must be addressed before progress can be made.
Discrimination affects millions of people worldwide and, if it is serious enough, can
start wars or trigger many negative events that put people at risk. I believe that
action against this needs to be taken by someone of high power, such as Congress
or the President of the United States, for real changes to begin to take place.
Without change, discrimination will continue to affect us as both individuals and as
a nation.
