Sunshine Springs Restaurant

There is currently no official eating establishment in Shonto.

Opportunity for a restaurant in Shonto Arizona.

Having community involvement by providing them jobs and duties.

Sunshine Springs Restaurant wishes to provide both contemporary and


traditional Navajo food to tourist around the world.

Sharing food, stories, and ideas are a part of Navajo culture.

Expand beyond Shonto.

Hours of Operation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Mission Statement

It is our mission to develop Indigenous based ecotourism and


develop the best restaurant on the Navajo Nation. It is also our
duty to leave a limited ecological footprint and pave the way for
sustainable energy on the Navajo Nation.

What Tourists Want

Tourist do not want to learn about other cultures from books or films. Rather,
they want to experience other cultures first-hand and have an authentic
experience.

According to Tribal Tourism Outlook, 80% of U.S. travelers are considered


cultural-heritage tourists.
What is a Cultural Heritage Tourist

Cultural-heritage tourist are a group of tourist who wish to experience the arts,
heritage, and special character of a place.

As a result we notice large high amounts of satisfaction when tourist visit tribal
lands.

Tourists recommend to their friends and family to visit Native American


Reservations.

Tourism Market

Tourism is one of the largest markets in the world.

In 2013 Tourism made 214.8 billion dollars.

The Tourism industry has provided 7.6 million jobs.

Arizona received nearly 35 million tourist in 2013

Arizona ranks 12 in the top states tourist visit.

Tourism contributed 15.4 billion dollars in wages in the state of Arizona.

According to The Center of Responsible Tourism it which reported that


in 80% of countries around the world, tourism is one of the top 5 export
markets.

Navajo Nation has an unemployment rate of 42 percent and 43 live


below the poverty rate.

About one in 10 employed Americans will


work in a restaurant this year.

Projections for 2015:

Arizona one of top 5 states for restaurant sales growth

Arizona is the top state for restaurant job growth

Up to one-third of all restaurant sales are attributable to tourism.

Elders will tell traditional stories

Stories will be told in the evenings from 5 p.m. to 8p.m.

Some stories can only be told during the appropriate time of the year.

Gift Shop

Provide tourist a cookbook to teach them how to make their own Navajo
foods at home

The book will be both in English and in the Navajo Language

Start up resources?

Collaborate with Shonto Community Governance.

Shonto officially obtained Navajo Nation Local Governance Act (LGA) on September
22, 1999

Collaborate with the community directly.

Sunshine Springs can receive funding from NGOs for utilizing solar and wind power.

Many NGOs that provide funding include American Council for Renewable Energy
(ACRE) and the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA)

Receive loans from the Navajo Nation.

Start on a small scale by having a food truck.

Renovate old buildings in the Shonto Community.

Members of the community to provide the resources.

Striving to be environmentally stable

Navajo culture teaches us that the Earth is precious and we must take
care of our Mother Earth.

Sunshine Springs Restaurant wishes to become environmentally stable


by tuning to solar and wind to power the restaurant.

Global Warming is an issue according to NASA, 10 of the warmest years


occurred in the past 12 years

Sunshine Springs Restaurant will set an example on the Navajo Nation


to convert the entire reservation to wind and solar energy.

Establish a rainwater capture system.
