Dear Elizabeth,
I am writing to inform you about my understanding of the Course
Outcomes and how they will relate to my future academic and
professional life. The first course outcome we addressed this semester
was the Analysis of the Rhetorical Situation. For this learning outcome
we had to analyze the subject, purpose and audience of each major
writing assignment to determine what type of document we had to
produce. For each major writing assignment we were give a rhetorical
situation from the prompt and from that information we had to make
sure our work reflected that we understood who we were writing to
along as what we were writing about. For the first major writing
assignment we had to produce an electronic portfolio the contained our
cover-letter and resume for a future employer. On our website portfolio
we had to talk about ourselves in third person and this again was to
address the different people who may look at my website. Through my
cover-letter and resume I tailored them to the specific job posting I was
inquiring about. With this assignment and understanding of this course
outcome I will be able to use this new skill to develop other cover
letters and resumes for when I plan to apply for internships and
professional positions. I am now able to look at a job posting and
analyze it to see how exactly I should write the required materials.
The second course outcome we went over this semester was to,
Find and Evaluate Information. For this course outcome, based on our
analysis of the rhetorical situation we had to gather information from
professional, academic, and government sources. We used the
information we gathered and determined if it was valid and if we had a
quality source. For the Research/Recommendation report we had to do
not only our own research by interviewing and surveying people, but
for my report, I looked onto other universities websites to see what
services they provided and based on that information I was able to
make recommendations. I had interviewed professionals at my
university as well to better my recommendations I was giving. I am
currently majoring in Biology and I have read many research reports
that were similar to this major writing assignment. From completing

this report I have a better understanding of the format of the report


and what information needs to be included to create a successful
document. This skill I have learned from this learning outcome and
writing assignment has better prepared me for the types of papers I
will be having to create later down in my academic career and most
likely into my professional career field.
The third learning outcome covered this fall semester was,
Compose Documents. This learning outcome was in place for us to
improve strategies to develop material and organize it logically and
properly for our intended audience. We considered ethical influences
for the documents and we work in groups to create a proposal. For our
second major writing assignment we were split into groups based off
our degree choices. We were unable to select the members of the
group so we were required to adapt quickly to learn to work with each.
When writing this proposal we demonstrated that we could use ethical
influences to strengthen our proposal. We were able to organize our
material logically and we worked fairly well with one another to
complete this task. I know that there will always be group work
whether if it is in another class I take or in my career field, with the
skills I have learned with managing time and splitting up the workload
amongst each other I will be able to successful fulfill task if placed in a
group situation.
Most classes I have taken require that I give one presentation or
even that I sit and listen/watch a presentation. Having gone over the
learning outcome, Presenting documents, I have become better
prepared to not only give a presentation aloud but turn in a piece of
work that is capable of being presented based off of having a better
understanding of the editing and revision stage of the writing process.
For this outcome we edited are revised all of our major writing
assignments to make them clear and easily understood with proper
formatting. Throughout the semester we included visuals elements to
aid in the understanding of our topics and to create an overall design
to enhance and show professionalism. In every assignment we
submitted this semester we had to include a multimodal component.
This multimodal component consisted of either pictures, graphs or
even power-point presentations. This visual components were in place
to help our audience better understand the material we were providing
them. By being able to find visuals and create visuals helps me later on
in my academic career because I will need to find multiply ways to
share my ideas, and my research. Learning to use a variety of
technologies to display my knowledge will greatly benefit me in every
aspect of life.

Thank you for everything you have taught me this semester, I


have learned so much and will carry many of these new skills and
knowledge with me pass my academic career.
