OVE-Piece Reflection
An argument can find plenty of use out of more than just writing. People take in
information better from varying sources, whether it be textually, visually, or orally. Though
writing is often the most utilized when it comes to work in school, there are plenty of instances
where using and understanding oral, visual, and electronic information sources are required and
helpful. The most apparent instance that displays this ideal is Assignment 3: the group ad
campaign presentation.
The group ad campaign analysis featured a PowerPoint presentation in which each
member of the group chose an ad from the campaign to create slides for and to orally explain to
the class audience. The oral presentation began with an introduction of the speakers and the
background of the ad campaign. Each member spoke clearly and was able to explain the full
spectrum of what each of their individual advertisements conveyed. The visual elements
enhanced the overall presentation by following the oral explanations. Most of the slides
contained still images of the analyzed ads along with brief textual descriptions of the scenes
presented to give as full of a picture to the audience as possible. This style of coordination
showed the amount of electronic communication possessed by the members of the group as well.
Creating a PowerPoint presentation that gave concise information while not distracting the

audience from the oral aspect of the assignment gave clear indication that the group was
competent in combining the oral, visual, and electronic elements for a presentation.
Of course, the assignment wasnt without it flaws. Some parts of the presentation gave
clear indication that more practice would have been beneficial to the end product. Despite stating
every aspect analyzed by the group, some of the oral delivery was botched. The Fisherman ad
section in particular contained a strong start and middle, but the end was full of stutters and
seemed to repeat information already known. Had there been more practice, a more concise close
to the speakers thoughts could have been contrived and rehearsed. Despite this less-than-stellar
oral delivery, it reveals an important idea about the collaboration of electronic and oral
communication. Slides can be produced to display information and one can comment on that
information, but it is crucial to plan out when what information should be spoken. Like the
paragraphs in a written piece, slides focus on different aspects of a topic and the oral delivery
should be organized to replicate this accordingly.
In a general overlook of the assignment and how it was executed, the oral, visual, and
electronic presentation skills were proved to be sufficient. Not only was each element of
communication presented effectively, but they coincided with each other. The magnitude held by
a picture is greatly amplified when given an in-depth oral description. Skill in producing an
electronic piece allows for visual elements to be displayed strategically. In a world advancing so
quickly in the realm of technology, electronic and visual communication become more and more
important. Whether attending a lecture, watching a video online, or creating a presentation for a
job, the combination of these skills retains its relevance.
