EDU-450 Procedures
Program of Study: Secondary Education (7th-9th)
Procedure 1: Bathroom (7th-9th)
Objective: To create a classroom environment with very little distraction and interruption while
ensuring the students physical needs are met.
When procedure will be introduced, modeled, and practiced:
The teacher will introduce the procedure on the first day of school. The teacher will model the
procedure the first day and verbally review with the students each day for the first week.
The students will practice the procedure one time each day as they verbally review for the first
week.
The teacher and students will verbally review and reinforce the procedure when needed or when
a new student joins the class.
Frequency of modeling and practice:
The teacher will model and practice with the students each day for the first week of school. After
that, the teacher and students will only model and practice if the procedure needs to be reinforced
or if a new student joins the class.
Assessment and Feedback:
Teacher will watch for students that follow the steps correctly and will positively reinforce the
students.
Procedure Steps or Activity:
1. It is recommended to go to the bathroom before or after class.
2. If a student needs to go to the bathroom during class he or she will quietly raise their hand in
the shape of a fist.
3. They must wait for my acknowledgement, a head nod or an indicator for them to wait for a
minute.
3. Then they can quietly sign out in the back of the room and take a paper bathroom slip.
4. They will have 5 minutes to go to the closest bathroom and return. (Make sure you wash your
hands)
5. I will mark on a sheet of paper that I already have prepared what time they leave and when
they come back.
Procedure 2: Tardy or Leaving Early (11th-12th)
Objective: To optimize time for instruction and ensure students do not fall behind in
coursework.
When procedure will be introduced, modeled, and practiced:
The teacher will introduce the procedure on the first day of school. The teacher will model the
procedure the first day and verbally review with the students each day for the first week.
The students will practice the procedure one time each day as they verbally review for the first
week.
The teacher and students will verbally review and reinforce the procedure when needed or when
a new student joins the class.

3. If a test or quiz was on the days missed the student must stay after class to see if he or she can
schedule a time to make up this work (not class time but during a study hall or a lunch). This is
also the time that the student will ask any questions regarding the work missed the days they
were absent.
Procedure 4: Desk Maintenance Procedure (11th-12th)
Objective: To optimize learning time by minimizing time spent on distracting tasks.
When procedure will be introduced, modeled, and practiced:
The teacher will introduce the procedure on the first day of school. The teacher will model the
procedure the first day and verbally review with the students each day for the first week.
The students will practice the procedure one time each day as they verbally review for the first
week.
The teacher and students will verbally review and reinforce the procedure when needed or when
a new student joins the class.

The teacher will model and practice with the students each day for the first week of school. After
that, the teacher and students will only model and practice if the procedure needs to be reinforced
or if a new student joins the class.

Procedure Steps or Activity:
1. Students will have the following materials out and ready before I walk to the front of the room
to begin class: 2 writing utensils, textbook or current literary work being covered, notebook, and
binder with handouts. (These are the only things that should be on the desk or table at all times
unless otherwise noted)
2. If trash is procured during the class period, students should place it in a small plastic baggy or
at the corner of the desk until the class period is over.
3. Students should pick up any fringes or scrap paper around their seat.
4. Students should keep their desks or tables straight.
5. Before leaving the class, students should do a double check to make sure nothing is left behind
and all of the above is in order.

1. Students must write their full name, date assignment is due, subject, and class period on all
assignments.
2. Students must be legible and neat. Students must use proper grammar and spelling in their
assignments.
3. Students must tear off the fringes left by spiral notebooks before turning it in. Likewise,
students should ensure that assignments are not crinkled, stained, or otherwise destroyed before
turning it in.
4. If a student finishes an assignment during class he or she may turn it into the homework bin
corresponding with the students class period.

5. All other homework must be turned in the day it is due in the homework bin corresponding
with their class period at the beginning of class.
Procedure 6: Late Assignments (7th-9th)
Objective: To efficiently handle turning in assignments and minimize disruptions during class.
When procedure will be introduced, modeled, and practiced:
The teacher will introduce the procedure on the first day of school. The teacher will model the
procedure the first day and verbally review with the students each day for the first week.
The students will practice the procedure one time each day as they verbally review for the first
week.
The teacher and students will verbally review and reinforce the procedure when needed or when
a new student joins the class.
