Betrayal by Elijah Bun

You whom I once trusted

You whom I told all my secrets
These Lies
Rip Us
Apart

The first whom I trusted

and the last

Now we still talk

but while you go one way
I walk
the other
I was not the first

Who trusted
you
and you hurt

In my original poem Betrayal as referenced by the title it's about how one of my closest
friends betrayed my trust. I used many odd line breaks in the poem to create emphasis on
certain words as well as to not have a easy form. I also used repetition of the word trusted as I
hoped to make that the motif of the poem- trust and how the poems stanza are not standard. I
wrote this poem because the incident that inspired it is one of the most profound and recent
changes to me that has taken place this year. I feel that breaking off with this specific friend was
good for me as he was a toxic friend who was bringing me down from what I could accomplish
in my life. While it was a good change in all, I ended the poem with the word hurt because the
entire affair feels unfinished as we never discussed it face to face but rather just disconnected
from each other
