Institution MMA/Fights essay
The MMA is a mixed martial arts this covers the different tournaments that use two or more
styles of fighting. There Are several Functions to any institute latent and manifest. There are
psychological reasons people like fights but that would take a long time to go into . then there
are street fights and their functions. People have watched fights for many years. MMA fights can
be seen all over the place from the big tournament to personal fights in dojos and there are also
the fights in the back alley; a karate black belt versus a taekwondo master that would be
considered MMA.
The manifest functions of the MMA would include entertainment and outlet for stress, and a
gathering of people. The average American over the age of 2 spends more than 34 hours a
week watching live television, says a new Nielsen report plus another three to six hours
watching taped programs that's a total of 37-40 hours a week, a lot of that is probably the
majority, is sports like football basketball and yes MMA fights. MMA fight is selling around 150
pay per views a day and 5000 ticket sales for a upcoming fight. According statistic brain
Research institute 77% of Americans in the study say they experience stress on a daily basis;
the more stress relief out there equals less people snapping under the stress. The majority of
the population of the people who bet or watch have to make the money to pay their ticket betting
and concession fees that puts more people into a functioning position of society with jobs; with
both the sellers and buyers in a working position this helps society in a beneficial way. The
entertainment part gives people an outlet for all there problems in the day, watching people
fighting gives them enjoyment and it captivates them in the fight. then there are the groups of
people who gather at these events. They are a lot like football fans they have a group of people
who they fit in with can interact with and not be judged on there like of the fights because that's
why the majority of people are there the others I have no idea.
There a lot of latent functions for society in MMA/Fights. The betting on fight there is
tremendous money in it passed from person to person there is also tickets to watch the fights
live and pay per view on tv. There is the enjoyment of the fighter when they are in the fight and if
they have matches and fights then they are a lot less likely become a assailant or criminal, the
statistics from the FBI Report of Offenses Known to Law Enforcement said there were over
70,0000 aggravated assault in the US alone in the last year 10,000 where in Colorado. the
fighter probably enjoys the fight or at least find it fun to test their skill in a field that allows them
to animals or beastly. The fighting gives people a chance to prove they are physically strong
and capable of using their strength but not actually break the law in the process. They also
lessen the amount of street fights by giving people another outlet but at the same time they
increase them by sowing on tv that it is ok to pound on each other.
The norms of professional no killing no hurting them to bad as in Kicking to the kidney with a
heel or Throat strikes of any kind, including, without limitation, grabbing the trachea; most of the
rules are so the match actually lasts and there are no hospital bills. No groin attacks of any kind
is one of those so the match lasts if you got hit in the groin you will fall into two categories

category one being that you just can't keep going this covers from rolling on the floor balling to it
just hurts to much category two is it justs makes you madder or there is a third category but
there are just very few that fall into it that you are unfazed by it you are very unlikely to go into
that category. There are are a lot fouls in the MMA pro fights like you would see on tv the fouls
can ether get your over all points deducted or disqualify you.
Then there are street fights a side effect and the cause of professional fighting. The street fights
are basicly the same as professional but not necessarily legal and usually have little or no rules
the wilder the better. A lot of people want to fight like the pros but do not have the connections
to make it in the ring or just don't know where to apply to fight. The crowds at the underground
fights like seeing blood and gore this kind of fights also can have more money involved in it. It
is closer to gladiating than professional fighting. Both professional and street play a role in
society but steet doesn't really have norms or fouls rules, go as far as you see acceptable which
for most people down or out not dead but there are the few that go too far and kill.
There are conflict and functionalist on both sides of the MMA and fights they started as war kill
or be killed then partioly throw riligion and human sacrafice went to gladiators the more blood
and gore the better acording to www.tribunesandtriumphs.org Gladiatorial games started in
Rome over 300 years before the Roman Colosseum was built gladiator history began with the
first recorded gladiatorial fight which was staged in 264AD then street and pro fights camea bout
but much later.. A conflict theorist would say that this is them fighting and compromising then
fighting then compromising over and over again. A functionalist would say that they are simply
adapting to the changes in the society to better help it or to survive within the society.
Some things that happen within the fight part of our society that part is not liked like the seldom
death or permanent maim of one the fighters the other parts the broken arm the nok out jaw hit
crowds goes wild for it. football fans who get really into their team and a player on the team they
root for tackles a player on the other team they feel overjoyed.it is pretty much the same with
MMA fans and the fighter they root for. A tackle equals a really strong hit a touchdown is a knock
out or hitting them hard enough so they hit the mat.
Over all they both play a part in the machine we call society and have a place they belong right
up there with self defence and the military.
