them using a series of centers to be completed in groups
Objective (Program of Studies):

Pre-Lesson Considerations

Lesson overview of main ideas to be learned and pre-learning

required:
We will review how to properly write a pattern rule
Students will learn what expressions are and what they look
like and then they will practice in centers
Materials Needed/pre-setup required/ logistical considerations
needed (seating arrangement):
Categories of questions
Worksheets
Matching game

Activity 1:

Ask students to raise their hand if they can give a

brief summary of what we learned yesterday
Explain that we will be reviewing how to write
pattern rule so we dont forget how to do that
correctly.
Write on the board the expression h+3 and write
the pattern rule: Add three to the previous element
Right the expression rx5 and write the pattern rule:
Multiply the previous element by three
Explain that adding and subtracting questions are
written the same and multiplying and dividing
questions are written the same
Explain we will be playing quiz quiz trade
Write the instructions on the board:
When I say go , stand up and raise your hand. Find
the person closest to you
Each take a turn quizzing each other on the cards
you have.
Your job is to coach, or to help them through the
question
Make sure they say is 100% correctly.
Once they get it, make sure you praise them, give
a high five, say good job
Then quiz again.then trade cards, put your hand
up and look for the next person to quiz.
Ask Luke or the room helper to hand out the quiz
quiz trade cards

Students will do quiz quiz trade for 10-15 minutes

Have students sit down, tell give them a countdown

Have students complete the centers they didnt finish

know if
students
learned what
you hoped?

Ask students to explain one thing they learned today
What is one thing that they found interesting about
pattern rules or expressions
