What is Personality?
No specific definition.
Personality is the characteristic systematic ways that we interact with the world.
The core of the individual. A core wiring of how you react to things, how you behave, what kinds
of things you think about, what motivates you, how you feel about things.
Why is it so difficult to define?
Because personality involves things that are only accessible to the person him-or herself, your
inner thoughts and feelings. Some of it is thought not to be available even to the person your
instincts and unconscious motivations.
Getting Along vs. Getting Ahead
What are the 3 constant characteristics of human behavior?
1. People always have lifting groups and they will always live in groups.
Social Animal.
2. Groups always have key with the structure power and somebody who is
in charge, a leader.
3. People need to have system of meaning like religion, philosophy, and
science which will help them to sense the world.
What are the 3 main motives that human have?
1. Getting along.
2. To be successful or getting ahead.
3. Finding meanings (key to understand how people make decision).
Group Dynamics
How did groups begin? Explain.
We need to understand what all people are like, how they get along, how they get ahead, how
they find meanings, we will be able to predict how the groups or other followers will behave will
help us to make a successful group.
Explain the difference between competition within groups and competition between groups.
The competition within groups is for status.
The competition between group is for survival.
How do group dynamics lead to the development of leadership?
Some of the people who have much skills at being able to help us to survive than others so we
tended to follow them and know what they are doing.

What is the Great Man Theory?
Great Man Theory is explained as a heroes, who is highly influential individuals due to their
personal charisma, intelligence, wisdom, or political skills to utilize their power and balance the
group.
What is Power? And how does it relate to leadership?
Power is when you do something which other wouldnt do. Capability of doing something and
influence other. Leadership is the exercise of power.
The Rise of Psychological Assessment
What impact did Freud have on the field of Psychology? Why?
Freud popularize the psychology and invented the modern study of psychoanalysis. Freud
accomplished this through his theory of psychological reality: id, ego, and superego.
What is Neurosis? (research if unknown)
Mental disorder that causes a sense of distress and deficit in functioning. Neuroses are
characterized by anxiety, depression, or other feelings of unhappiness or distress that are out of
proportion to the circumstances of a persons life.
Identity vs. Reputation
What is the difference between Identity and Reputation?
Identity: is the private self that is so important to you.
Reputation: you that people know. What other people think of you.
How does both Identity and Reputation impact your career success?
Based on the reputation, people will anticipate your personality, how they will deal with you,
make a judgement about you, and how people will interact with you will affect the most in your
career success.
How did military leadership assessment identify good leaders?
Military leadership invented the modern assessment center as a technique for finding a good
leadership. And assessment of personality is the key to find the good leader in the military.
Assessment Comes to the United States
How were German military leadership assessments instituted in the United States?
One psychiatric wants tech a personality psychology to the Harvard college. United State send
two men to the German to see what they are doing around psychology assessment.

What is the Five Factor Model of Personality?

Five broad dimensions used by some psychologists to describe human personality.


Five Factor Model of Personality is openness, conscientiousness, extraversion,
agreeableness, and neuroticism.

Measuring Traits and Predicting Performance


What are the two main approaches to personality assessment?
1. Measuring traits.
2. Predicting outcome
How can a bad leader impact an organization? (Chainsaw Al)
A bad leader can make a decision which can affect all members in the groups or an individual.
Bad leader can mess things up at any time because they wont think much about other and
herself/himself.

The Dark Side


What is a dark side? And when does it show up?
Static characteristics, which isnt very attractive when they demonstrate. It shows up when
people are under stress and uncomfortable.
The Bright Side
What is the bright side? And when does it show up?
Bright side is a persons strength to open a door to advance their career. Also an public persona
and the aspect of our personal things that can be managed to some extent. It shows up when
you are under control.
A New Way to Think
Can people change their personality?
No, you cant change their personality, but you can make a strategies that can help you to
manage your personality. You can put new things in the background, but you cant just changed
it totally.
