My teaching philosophy is that it is my responsibility as a teacher to do everything in my

power to make positive and meaningful connections with my students, so that I can be more
effective in helping them learn and grow as learners. A teacher gets to know their students by
asking questions, observing, and through verbal and nonverbal assessment. It is an ongoing
process that will evolve as the school year continues. I want to embrace my students differences
whether that be their heritage or exceptionalities by working with staff, the student, and the
curriculum to ensure that every childs individual needs are being met. My belief is that every
child is capable of attaining the highest levels of learning with the proper support, environment,
and instruction. I would utilize every resource available in effort to see that my belief becomes a
reality.
Creating a classroom of learners that are motivated and focused is key to successful
learning. The importance of motivation goes hand in hand with reinforcement. I believe in giving
children confidence, love, and support so that they know that I do believe in them which will
transpire in them believing in themselves. Creating a safe and positive environment for each
child starts with assurance in what is expected from each individual, including myself. I will
express through my actions and words to each child that they are special to me, and that I have
the upmost faith that every single student is capable of achieving great things academically.
Discipline should only be used in situations in which the student broke the contract set
between teacher and class. The best approach to discipline is by discussing and agreeing on the
rules and procedures with the class on the very first day. This way there is no question or doubt
as to what the expectations are. Every child should know what consequences come with each
decision made. This will hold the students accountable for their behavior. It should also leave

each child feeling secure in knowing exactly what their role and responsibilities as a student
should be.
I want to make sure that every child feels valuable. Through ongoing and engaging
lessons, I will incorporate unique techniques to make every child active in the learning process. I
believe that learning should be fun! I want to spark excitement and curiosity in my students by
incorporating unique lessons that will stimulate them to learn. Creating a world of wonder and
creativity, will inspire the students to take more risks. Additionally, I want to promote working
in groups as a main theme in my classroom. This will ensure that all children are actively
engaged in the learning process. Students will benefit from learning and teaching their peers
which will encourage them to challenge themselves, furthering their development of
communication and teamwork. I also believe that more hands on lessons and field trips are
crucial in a childs learning so that students have the opportunity to learn through different
unique experiences as well.
This reflection is an example of my understanding of InTASC 9, which states
professional learning and ethical practice. What this InTASC standard means to me is that as
teachers we are to continue learning, adapting, and assessing ourselves to better meet the needs
of our students individuality. I will continue my knowledge of content information and
methodology through continuing education and collaboration. Just as I want my students to do
their best, I expect and want the same for myself. The qualities and skills that define an
exceptional teacher are compassion, patience, a willingness to learn, tenacity, and most
importantly, an overwhelming love for children. The best teachers are neither born nor made;
they are the ones that see their role in each and every childs life as more than just a job. Great
teachers can make a difference, and that is exactly what I intend to do.
