Findings:
Novice teachers
(2-5 years):

Expert teachers
(10 years and more):

Limited knowledge in
conducting teaching
methods and limited
knowledge about the
students.
Conventional
approach in
assessment and
evaluation.

Use teaching method

and strategies
appropriately,
timely, and
sufficiently.
Diagnostic and
descriptive
assessment and
evaluation approach.

Article:
A good content knowledge alone is not
enough.

Comments/Opinions:
Content knowledge is sufficient to teach students.
But, lack of experiences may have problems in
transmitting the concepts in science.
They certainly possess expertise in their subject.
But what most of them lack is pedagogical
competence. That's why they wouldn't last very
long in a public school classroom. (W.Gardner,
2010)

Article:
Inexperienced teachers prefer
conventional or prepared assessment
and evaluation tools.
Comments/Opinions:
A novice teacher tends to rely on unmodified
subject matter knowledge (most often directly
extracted from the course book)
They perceive events and process the
meanings of those events narrowly, which
limits their problem-solving ability. Finally, their
knowledge exists in rigid semantic and
procedural structures (Berliner, 1994)

Article:
Less experience teacher have
deficiencies in using methods and
strategies due to their insufficient
knowledge in teaching.
Comments/Opinions:
The other two components of teacher knowledge
also differentiate teachers from subject matter
experts.
Teachers' knowledge of students' abilities and
learning strategies, ages and developmental levels,
attitudes, motivations, and prior knowledge of the
concepts to be taught.
Teachers' understanding of the social, political,
cultural and physical environments.

Article:
Teachers with broader knowledge gives
alternatives explanations for the students.

Comments/Opinions:
Any instructors, tutors, lecturers or teachers with
broader experiences are more likely to have many
alternatives ways of teaching and evaluating
students.
The expert teachers were more likely ask students
to use previous instruction to explain real life
situations before going on to new materials.

Conclusion:

Definitely agree that pedagogical

content knowledge is related to
experience in teaching
Pedagogical content knowledge is a
form of knowledge that makes science
teachers is a teachers rather than
scientists (Gudmundsdottir, 1987)
"Those who can, do. Those who
understand, teach." (Shulman, 1986)

Recommendations:

Teachers with insufficient PCK may be

included in professionals development
seminars about the subject in which they
have deficiencies regardless of their
experience.
Training activities may be conducted
towards alternative teaching method and
strategies.
Student-oriented methods should be
taught in teacher training programs

THE END.
