Origin: Egypt
This is originally an Egyptian song that celebrates various attributes of the Messenger
of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. Many contemporary renditions have been
produced recently. While all the lyrics of all the various renditions are impossibleto
enumerate here, the four stanzas below are the most wellknown.
Qamarun sdna alnab wa jaml
The likeness of the moon, our master
the Prophetis,
And ever so beautiful.

Dak alsinni lilshiq ramhu Allh

Cheerful and smiling, leaving his
admirers utterly lovestruck:
Allah Allah!

wa kull alkhalqi anra binri H
While all of creation is lit up from the
light of TaHa.

wa aynu qatdatatin khudhh dalla
Take the eye of Qatada* as evidence [of
this]


wa ara liabih shahdan mudma
And it became like honey for his
companions.

it began at the chest, down to his
perfect navel

Wa kaff alMuaf kalwardi nd
Allh Allh
The palm of the Chosen One is like
a rosepetal, silken and dewy:
Allah Allah!

Wa amma nawluh kull alibdi
Its great favor has encompassed all
of humanity, and is widespread.


wa rq almuaf yashf alalla
The saliva of the Chosen One heals
the ailing, the sick

tafal filbiri aat salsabla
[And as further evidence:] He spat
in the well and it became a flowing
spring


wa masrubatun kadi almiski ql
It was narrated to be a strip of hair
like a stem of musk wood

raslaLlahi rifqan bilqatl
O Messenger of Allah, be gentle

O Messenger of Allah, be gentle


with the lovestruck, with those who
have fallen madly in love with you

*The reference here is to the companion Qatda ibn Numn who lost an eye while defending
the Prophet at Uhud. It was returned to the socket by Prophets hands and healed so well it
was stronger than his unwounded eye.
