smalldomeandasculptureoflordShivaand
Parvathionit.Onecanalsofindawholelotof
Nagarajaidols,andeachidolhasauniquefacetoit.Therearemanyidolsthetempleislocatedina

oneforlordShivaandanotherisforlord
Ganesha.LordShivahereisknownas
Mahadevar.Itisbelievedthatthetemplewasbuilt
in1317.Theidolswereestablishedlongbeforethe
templewasbuilt!Although,itisprimarilyaShiva
temple,onecanclearlyseetheVishnavas
influenceinthistemple.ThosedaysVishnavas
dominancewashighanditreflectsthru'Vishnavasignsthroughoutthetemple.LordGaneshisvery
famousinthispartofthestate.Thistemplewasrenovatedmanytimesoverthecenturiesandthis
informationisavailableinthetemplesscriptures.Therearebeautifulpaintingsdrawnonthewalls
insidethetemple.Oncewepassbyahugetreeunderitisasnakecarvedoutofgranitestone,weheadto
AdisiyaVinayakarTemple.Thistemplehasalongpassageandwallsareadornedwithmagnificent
paintings.Thesacredsanctumhasanirongridslidingdoor.Thesacredsanctumisnotanenclosed
chamber,asthelordisplacedoutside,andunderthehugebanyantree.

Rameshwarambeach.ThekingthengiftsittohisRameshwaramcounterpartSethuMannan.Sethu
Mannanwasoverwhelmedbytheloveandaffection,howeverhereturnsthegiftbacktothe
KeralapuramKing.Itwashisopinionandbeliefthatthefindershouldhaveitanditwastherightthing
todo.Alongwiththeidol,theRameshwaramKinggiftsanotherHugeEmeraldIdol.However,the
Mogullaterlootedtheemeraldidolduringtheirinvasion.Theycouldnottaketheidolwiththem,itwas
stucktotheground.So,theidolwasleftbehind.Though,thetemplewasbuiltinthe12thcenturyidols
herearequiteolderthanthetemple.Accordingtothetemplepriest,theidolisatleast2,300yearsold!
Theidolwasnotinstalledaccordingtotheagamanashastraitissimplykeptontheelevatedplatform.
Peopleoffertheirprayerseverymorningandintheevening.Abhishekamtothelordtakesplaceevery
morningandintheevening!HencetheidolfoundattheRameshwarambeachisworshipedhere.
