COMM 101: Public Speaking

Assignment Guidelines: Informative Speech #1

Purpose: To teach the class something new using credible research

Topics must relay new information to the audience using an appropriate organizational pattern
Types to consider (see What is Informative Speaking? chapter in text):
o To Describe (objects, people, animals, places, events)
o To Instruct (process or how to)
o To Explain (concepts or issues)
o To Report (updates on current events)

Requirements:

Time: 3-5 minutes

Sources: Minimum 3 citations required
3x5 Index Cards are allowed (no more than 5)

Paperwork

All outlines due on the FIRST day of speeches

o Submit preparation outline
o Must include source citations
o Works Cited page in MLA format
Attach grading rubric to the front of your outline
Attach speech workshop evaluations after works cited page
