Students
will
learn
about
the
story

the
mother
sea
turtle
and
her
quest
to
bury
her
eggs
and
design
their
very
own
sea
turtle
using
a
wax
resist
watercolor
technique.
Students
will
discuss
turtle
ecology
and
choose
from
several
materials
to
create
their
turtle.

Overview
Day
1:
Students
will
begin
the
lesson
reading
a
story
with
Ms.
B
called
Ill
Follow
the
Moon,
a
book
about
the
life
cycle
and
ecology
of
the
sea
turtle.
After
discussing
the
book,
students
will
view
a
short
PowerPoint
presentation
with
images
of
sea
turtles
and
sea
turtle
art
from
cultures
around
the
world.
For
the
remainder
of
the
class
period,
students
will
practice
drawing
sea
turtles
and
sea
turtle
shells
in
their
sketchbooks
with
guided
help
from
Ms.
B.
Day
2:
After
a
brief
review
of
sea
turtle
art,
students
will
retrieve
their
sketchbooks
and
finish
practicing.
Students
will
watch
a
demonstration
of
the
project
by
Ms.
B,
from
beginning
their
drawing
first
with
pencil
on
paper
to
using
black/white
oil
pastel
or
gel
medium
to
create
a
resist
look
with
watercolor.
Students
will
be
sure
to
write
their
names
on
the
back
of
their
paper
before
beginning
the
assignment.
Student
work
will
be
collected
or
laid
out
to
dry
at
the
end
of
the
class
period.
Day
3:
Students
will
finish
the
painting
process,
using
a
carefully
selected
set
of
colors
of
their
choice.
Students
will
have
the
opportunity
to
use
salt
on
wet
watercolor
if
they
wish
to
create
designs
and
patterns
in
the
paint.
