INTRODUCTION
The Bullgang Backsaver has been designed and tested to offer safe service provided it is operated,
maintained and inspected in strict accordance with the instructions and warnings contained in this
Manual. The Bullgang Backsaver is a manual lifting system, NOT A PRY BAR, for single section
lengths (weighing 1000 pounds or less) of mechanical shapes such as pipes and rods (WHICH ARE
CONTAINED BY THE CRADLE, Component Part Item (3)) that allows operators to safely lift the
mechanical shapes off of the ground or ground level surfaces. The single section lengths of mechanical
shapes weighing 1000 pounds and are contained by the Cradle are hereafter referred to as the Working
Load. The Bullgang Backsaver is used to pick up a Working Load, hold it within the confines of its
Cradle (3), and lift it so that a second operator may safely place or remove stands, fixtures or blocks
under/from under the Working Load, or, for setting the Working Load on the floor, the ground or a
surface as the need may be. There is no operation in the above described use of the Bullgang
Backsaver that requires an operator or a worker to bodily move or pick up the Working Load.
Safety Symbol and Signal Word Review
When you see these Safety Symbols and Signal Words
on the following pages, they will alert you to the
possibility of injury that may be serious if you do
not comply with the warnings that accompany them.
Read the warnings carefully.

! CAUTION ! ]

USING THE BULLGANG BACKSAVER

1.
LIFTING A WORKING LOAD:
a.
Position the Bullgang Backsaver with the nose of Cradle (3) on the ground near the point
where the first stand, fixture or block is to be inserted under the Working Load.
b.
Lift the Handle (1) up and push the Bullgang Backsaver toward the Working Load with
both hands so that the nose of the Cradle (3) slides under the curve of the Working Load.
c.
With a shallow oscillating up and down motion on the Handle (1), push the Bullgang
Backsaver forward with both hands until the Working Load rests in the Cradle (3).
d.
With both hands, push down on the Handle (1) to raise the Working load for insertion of
a stand, fixture or block BY A SECOND OPERATOR. [ ! WARNING ! ] Do not
release Handle (1) while the Working Load is raised, doing so will allow the Working Load to
push down on Cradle (3) and rotate on Pivot (4) lifting the Handle (1) rapidly and possibly
striking the User.
2.

INSERTING A STAND, FIXTURE OR BLOCK UNDER THE WORKING LOAD:

a.
With both User's hands holding the Handle (1) down, A SECOND WORKER can insert
a stand, fixture or block under the Working Load making certain that his hands and feet
are not under the Working Load at any time. [ ! WARNING ! ] Do not release
Handle (1) while the Working load is raised, doing so will allow the Working Load to push down
on the Cradle (3) and rotate on Pivot (4) lifting the Handle (1) rapidly possibly striking a User.
Also, if the second worker has his hands or feet under the Working Load they may get crushed if
Handle (1) is released while the Working Load is raised.
b.
With both User's hands, lower the Working Load onto the stand, fixture or block,
checking to ensure that the Working Load will remain in position and that no one has
hands or feet under the Working Load at any time.
c.
Move the Bullgang Backsaver to the next position and repeat Steps 1 and 2 as needed.
3.
REMOVING A STAND, FIXTURE OR BLOCK FROM UNDER THE WORKING LOAD:

a.

Position the Bullgang Backsaver with the nose of Cradle (3) on the ground near the first
stand, fixture or block that is to be removed from under the Working Load.
b.
Lift Handle (1) up and push the Bullgang Backsaver toward the Working Load with both
hands so that the nose of Cradle (3) slides under the Working Load.
c.
With both User's hands, push down on the Handle (1) to raise the Working Load for
removal of the stand, fixture or block. [ ! WARNING ! ] Do not release Handle (1)
while the Working Load is raised, doing so will allow the Working Load to push down on the
Cradle (3) and rotate on Pivot (4) rapidly lifting the Handle (1) and possibly striking a User.
d.
With both hands holding Handle (1) down, A SECOND WORKER can remove the
stand, fixture or block from under the Working Load making certain that his hands or
feet are not under the Working Load at any time. [ ! WARNING ! ] Do not release
the Handle (1) while the Working Load is raised, doing so will allow the Working Load to push
down on Cradle (3), rotate on Pivot (4) lifting Handle (1) rapidly and possibly striking a User.
Also, if the second worker has his hands or feet under the Working Load they may get crushed.
e.
Lower the Working Load carefully to the surface.
f.
Raise the Handle (1) far enough to roll/slide the Working Load off of the Cradle (3).
WHEN THE BULLGANG BACKSAVER IS NOT IN USE:
[ ! CAUTION ! ] Because the Bullgang Backsaver is heavy on the Handle (1) end, it will not
stand by itself. If Handle (1) is released without fifty five (55) pounds of Working Load on the
Cradle (3), the Handle (1) will fall to the surface beneath the Bullgang Backsaver possibly
striking a worker's feet. When not using the Bullgang Backsaver lay it on the walking surface or
stand it in a cabinet.
INSPECTION OF THE BULLGANG BACKSAVER:
a.
Before and after each day's use, visually inspect all welds for cracks or failures. If cracks
or failures are found contact BULLGANG TOOLS LLC to determine if replacement the
Bullgang Backsaver is available under warranty.
b.
Before and after each day's use, visually inspect the Handle (1) for nicks or burrs that
could cut an Operator's hands. Remove all nicks and burrs by sanding them down with
120 grit sand paper. Repaint as needed to prevent corrosion.
c.
Before and after each day's use, visually inspect the Handle (1) for bends. A bent
Handle (1) indicates that the Bullgang Backsaver has been overloaded, replace the
Bullgang Backsaver. Overloading of the Bullgang Backsaver voids the BULLGANG
TOOLS LLC warranty.
