WELCOME
TO IRONMAN muskoka
Mitch Fraser
Race Director
Welcome athletes to the 1st annual Subaru IRONMAN Muskoka. This event
has been long awaited and we couldnt be more pleased to present it to
you. It seems fitting that I return as the race director for this event. I have
been a part of the development of the sport of triathlon for almost 30 years
and since Muskoka hosted the ITU World Championships in 1992 . Muskoka
has embraced our sport and over the last 23 years has become one the
most loyal and dedicated triathlon communities throughout North America.
They have hosted Sprint events, Kids events, 5150 events and Long Course
Events featuring the Subaru Muskoka Chase. On Sunday, August 30th,
you will be included in the very long list of amazing triathletes that have
competed here!
This event symbolizes so much for so many but we cant help but feel sentimental as I look back on how far we have come. There are many people
that need to be credited for seeing this race come to fruition. Subaru is first
and foremost who comes to mind. They have not only been a part of our
world for 25 + years but they have been the true backbone of the sport of
triathlon in Canada. We have grown along with them. Our relationship over
the years has been more than just business and I believe that shows at all
of the events they support. They will always go that extra mile to show us!
Thank you to Tod Sullivan and Geoff Craig for their valued and continual
support and for having faith in what we do as event promoters. You have
always been triathlon believers and we are eternally grateful.
We would also be remiss if we did not send out a grateful thankful for all
the time and support over the years from so many people. Thank you Don
McCormick. We have gone through so much together and will always look
to you as our mentor. Thank you Rich Trenholm, Kari Lambe, Steve Sadonja,
Harold Featherston, Jackie Parris, Dave Mucyk, Nick Stoehr , Greg Nicol,
Lisa Bentley, Lyle Harris and Janet; its been a blast. Together with the
good people of Huntsville, Dwight, Lake of Bays and along with the super
passionate folks of Trimuskoka we welcome you. We have all worked hard
to get here; to get to this moment we have all been waiting for. Whether
you are an athlete, a sponsor, a volunteer or coordinator; we will all feel the
same sense of pride on race day.
Be safe, be strong and watch for us cheering you on at the finish line! We
couldnt be more proud!

Pre-Race INFORMATION
Athlete Check-In
Prior to departing for Muskoka, be sure to establish a communications plan with family and friends back home. Share the race day
emergency contact listed below with those who may need to reach
you in an emergency. Even if you are in Muskoka with family and
friends, it is essential that you have a plan for contacting or reuniting
with your group following the race.
Personal Safety
Always train with at least one other person (especially in the open
water). While swimming, please wear a brightly colored swim cap
and ensure that your family members and/or friends know where
you are. When training, please bike and run on the shoulder without
moving into the traffic lane. Please be courteous and aware that the
people sharing the roads with you are people you will count on during race day to fulfill your physical and emotional needs. Please ride
single file, as biking side by side is illegal.
As you are one of Muskokas invited guests, please respect and obey
the traffic laws during your training practices. Violators will be cited.
You are required to carry proper identification at all times. If you are
stopped, you must present your identification to the inquiring officer.
Failure to do so may result in race disqualification. Your cooperation
is appreciated.

Mandatory Bike And Gear Check-In
Have your family or friends drive you directly to the resort. You will
have a limited amount of time to unload your bags and bike from the
unloading zone. You can then proceed through to Check-In from
there. Please be ready to unload quickly as this will be a continual
flow through of traffic. Your driver has the opportunity to drive back
to the airstrip and return to meet you using the busing system.
Bike Valet if you are arriving by yourself you are welcome to bring
your bike with all necessary bike stickers attached directly to the
unloading zone in front of Deerhurst Resort. Leave your bike with a
volunteer who will place it on a temporary bike rack until you return.
You can drive your car back to the airstrip and take the bus back to
the resort with your gear bags to complete the bike and gear bag check
in process.
Arrive at the Deerhurst Airstrip to park car and then ride bike into
Deerhurst with gear bags. This is a more difficult option.
We want you to know that the busing system works very well and
we have used this system for many years. We hope this relieves any
pre-race stress you may be feeling!
The majority of our events are held in locations where the swim
course utilizes a body of water that is open to the general public for
swimming, boating and other recreational and commercial activities.
IRONMAN wishes to caution all participants that it does not provide
lifeguard services prior to the event, and that all participants who
siwm prior to race day will do so at their own risk. Please also be
advised that public boating and seaplane use occur in the areas
outside of the designated swim area.
While we make reasonable efforts to inspect the swim entry and
exit points for underwater hazards, the inspection does not take
place until just before the swim discipline starts. Participants are
further admonished to exercise caution and use common sense if
they elect to swim prior to the event and to be mindful of underwater hazards. Keep in mind that this is a natural body of water and is
subject to hidden hazards including, but no limited to: currents, underwater obstructions, tides, rip currents and indigenous marine life

Morning Clothes Bag
You will receive a white Morning Clothes Bag at Athlete Check-In. Prior
to the swim start on race morning, place any items (e.g., dry clothes, car
or hotel room key, meds) you may need at the finish line in your Morning Clothes Bag. Leave the bag in the designated drop area at the swim
start. Your Morning Clothes Bag may be retrieved after the race adjacent to Transition. Any items that do not fit inside the Morning Clothes
Bag, such as bike pumps and backpacks, will not be accepted.
You will receive an orange Bike Special Needs Bag and black Run Special
Needs Bag at Athlete Check-In. A special needs station will be located
near the mid-point on the bike and run course. These special needs
stations are for special needs purposes, such as nutritional items or
an extra pair of socks, etc. Prior to the swim start, both Bike and Run
Special needs bags must be dropped off at two separate locations
on Deerhurst property. Between 4:30 a.m and 6:30 a.m. Bike Special
Needs will be dropped off at the big yellow school bus. Run special
needs bag will be dropped off in open space along Deerhurst Drive.
Look for lots of volunteer who will help you get things right. Do NOT put
anything of value in your bike or run special needs bags. Special needs
bags will NOT be returned.
The main Deerhurst Parking Lot will act as the Transition Area starting on
Thursday. Guests staying at Deerhurst will have parking on-site. Those
not staying at Deerhurst will have full parking at the Deerhurst AirStrip
and Hidden Valley Ski Chalet. There are LIMITED spots available at Hidden
Valley Ski Chalet so it will be first-come, first-serve.
There will be NO parking on Deerhurst Drive/Hidden Valley Drive as this
is a busing route. All cars that violate this rule will be towed at owners
expense. Parking in this area seriously jeopardizes the emergency access
route and busing plan. From the Deerhurst Airstrip, buses will be available
to get to and from Deerhurst.
Towing Information
The race will officially end 17 hours after the swim start. Aid station
stops, transitions, etc., will be included in your total elapsed time. Splits
will be recorded for each segment of the race. The following cut-off
times apply for each segment of the race:
Swim Cut-Off
The swim course will close 2 hours and 20 minutes after the last age
group athlete starts the swim. Each athlete will get the full 2 hours and
20 minutes to complete the 2.4 mile swim regardless of what time they
enter the water. Athletes who take longer than 2 hours and 20 minutes
to complete the swim will receive a DNF. IRONMAN officials reserve
the right to pull athletes off the course who exceed any established
course time cut-offs.
Bike Cut-Off
The bike course will close 10 hours, 30 minutes after the official start.
Intermediate cut-offs are at the following:
Baysville Bike Aid Station 1st Loop - approximately 70 km - 12:30 p.m.
Start of 2nd Loop (North Portage/South Portage Intersection) approximately 95km - 1:45 p.m.
Baysville Bike Aid Station 2nd Loop approximately 148 km 4 p.m.
The bike course will close at 5:30 p.m. Athletes arriving at the bike
dismount line after 5:30 p.m. will not be permitted to continue and will
receive a DNF.
Run Cut-Off
The run course will close 17 hours after the official start. Intermediate
cut-offs are at the following:
Start of second Loop 9 p.m. (21 km or half way)
Last turn around on run course on Brunel Rd approximately 32 km 10:30 p.m.
All athletes must complete the entire run course by 12 midnight.
Athletes arriving at the cut-offs after the above listed times will not be
permitted to continue.
IRONMAN reserves the right to remove an athlete from the course and
DNF the athlete if our course staff determines there is no possibility
of an athlete finishing the given discipline (swim, bike, run) before the
posted cut-off times based on an athletes location, time, and average
speed up to that point.
PLEASE NOTE: Athletes who finish before the midnight cut-off but have
a finishing time of more than 17 hours will be considered a DNF and will
not be eligible for age-group awards or for IRONMAN World Championship slots or rolldown slots.
Body marking will begin at 5 a.m. just inside transition. Do not number yourself expecting to bypass check-in. During the body marking process, athletes are responsible for ensuring the body marking
volunteers mark the athletes age as of December 31, 2015 which
corresponds with the age division in which the athlete will compete in
on race day. You will not be permitted in transition on race day without
your wristband, swim cap and MyLaps Pro Chip. If you have misplaced
any of these items, please see the transition director for a replacement.
Do not apply sunscreen, oil, Vaseline or lotion until after you have been
body marked. Transition closes at 6:30 a.m. All athletes must be out of
transition and headed to the swim before this time.

Competitor Responsibilities
When you pick up your race packet and MyLaps Pro Chip at Athlete
Check-In, stop by the chip verification table to ensure that your
correct name shows up on the computer screen.
You must wear your MyLaps Pro Chip at all times while you are
racing. Prior to the swim, fasten the chip to your left ankle with the
strap provided and do not remove it until you have finished the run.
Aid Stations
Aid stations are approximately every 20 km on the bike and approximately a km apart on the run. The general offerings are as follows:
Bike:
You may apply Vaseline around your ankle; it will not affect the
MyLaps Pro Chip. Volunteers will help you remove the chip at the
finish line.
If you do not start the race, you are responsible for returning the
MyLaps Pro Chip to timing.
If you drop out or are pulled from the race at any time, turn in your
MyLaps Pro Chip to a race official. Failure to do so may disqualify
you from participating in future IRONMAN events. It is essential
that we know where you are on the course at all times for your
safety and our peace of mind. If you are transported to any medical
station, the medical staff will take responsibility for your MyLaps
Pro Chip.
Your race MyLaps Pro Chip is a loaner. By picking up your race
number and MyLaps Pro Chip, you are guaranteeing that you will
return the chip to timing, or you will be billed $75.00 (USD) for its
replacement.
If you lose your MyLaps Pro Chip during the event, you are responsible for a replacement at one of the following locations: swim
exit, bike exit or run exit. Volunteers will have extra MyLaps Pro
Chips at the timing locations above. If you lose your MyLaps Pro
Chip while on the run course, please notify a timing official immediately after crossing the finish line.
Failure to wear your MyLaps Pro Chip on race day, return your
chip after the event or pay the replacement cost of your lost chip
may disqualify you from future IRONMAN events.

Every athlete wants to be in tip top shape for race day. Long days of
travel in cramped planes and cars can leave your muscles in need of
a massage to get you race ready. Located at Deerhurst Resort, our
Ironman Muskoka medical team has put together a team of eager
massage and manual therapists who will work out those kinks.

Mandatory Bike and Gear Check-Out is from 6 p.m. to midnight in the transition area on race day. You are required to reclaim your bicycle and gear
after the race. You must have your athlete wristband on in order to claim your bike and gear. If you are unable to personally claim your bike and gear,
a family member or friend may use your Bike Check-Out ticket that will be provided in your race packet. As a precaution, give this ticket to a family
member or friend prior to the race, even if you plan to reclaim your bike and gear yourself. If a friend or family member does decide to up these items
as a courtesy, please ask them to leave a message on your cell phone so we have no panicked athletesit happens a lot!
When your race is over and you are ready to head back home please remember to pick up your gear. If you want your family or friends to retrieve it
for you they will need to have a bike check out ticket in their possession to do so. This will be given to you at registration. You will have until midnight
on Sunday to pick up your belongings. If you are not staying at Deerhurst and came to the event by yourself, a little planning in advance will go a long
way. Bikes are not allowed on the buses back to the airstrip ,however, you will be able to take your gear bags (retrieve from Change Room Area) with
you on the bus. You can then go back to your car at the airstrip and drive back into Deerhurst via hidden Valley and follow the signage for bike pick up
(located just outside transition zone). There will be a temporary parking spot for a quick BIKE pick up only. This is why we advise you to already have
your bags before doing this step. Please do not stop and talk at this point as it will bottleneck the pick up process.
If you have family and friends with you they can meet you here and pick you up along with your bike and gear bags for a very quick turnover.
Bike pick up will be available immediately after the first athlete crosses the finish line. Approximately 3 p.m. When arriving to pick up your bike; enter
the resort area from Hidden Valley. Maps will be available on site for you to view.
Left on Pen Lake Road and follow along backside of Deerhurst.
Follow signs for Bike Check Out.
The process works in a loop and will flow back out the way you came in through Hidden Valley.
Race Photography
FinisherPix will have several photographers working at the swim exit, on the bike course, on the run course, and of course, at the finish line!
Any unclaimed items will be making the return home with the event promotors to IRONMAN Canada. Please contact us at
info@trisportcanada.com and provide us with a detailed message of what you lost and how you can be contacted. We strongly advise that you label your
personal belongings. *All unclaimed items will be donated within 30 days.

WETSUIT RULES
Swimwear must be 100% textile material, which is defined as materials consisting of natural and/or synthetic, individual and non-consolidated yarns used to constitute a fabric by weaving, knitting and/
or braiding. Simply put, this would generally refer to suits made only
from nylon or Lycra that do not have any rubberized material such
as polyurethane or neoprene. Swimwear must not cover the neck,
extend past the shoulder, nor extend past the knees. Swimwear may
contain a zipper. A race kit may be worn underneath swimwear.
Compression gear (clothing covering any part of the arms below
the shoulders or any part of the legs below the knee) may NOT be
worn DURING non-wetsuit swims. Compression gear MAY be worn
upon completion of non-wetsuit swims or during wetsuit legal
swims.
Please note: Your TRANSITION CHANGE TENT for swim to bike
and bike to run are located inside Deerhurst Resort in Legacy Hall.
The Hall will be transformed into the change tent by Saturday
morning. You will check your bike and run gear bag in here on
Saturday. Change tent will be divided into sections for men and
women. Each athlete will be assigned a chair with their race number attached to it. Please find the chair assigned to you and place
your bike bag on the seat of the chair and your run bag under the
chair. Please keep these bags done up until race or you risk losing
articles. When you transition from swim to bike please place your
wetsuit inside your empty bike bag for security reasons and easy
post-race retrieval.

IRONMAN
SWIMSMART
Top 10 Checklist
An open-water swim in a triathlon is substantially different from swimming in a pool.
To alleviate stress, its important that you arrive on race day healthy, fit and prepared.
Here's a top-10 checklist to help get you ready.
Race day should not be your first open water swim. Make sure
some of your training replicates real race conditions, including water
temperature, proximity to other swimmers and wearing a wetsuit if
needed.
Arrive early enough on race day for a proper warm-up prior to the
start, preferably in the water.
If you arent able to warm up in the water, spend between 5 and 10
minutes getting loose.
Be sure to do some cardio activity, such as a light jog, to increase
circulation and prep your muscles.
Study the event timetable to plan for proper arrival and preparation.
As an athlete in training, you should take the proper steps to assess
your health with your physician.
The American Heart Association suggests a 12-step screening process for competitive athletes. This includes a physical exam as well as
an assessment of your family history and personal heart health.
If you experience chest pain or discomfort, shortness of breath, lightheadedness or blacking out while training, consult your doctor.
In a race setting always stop at the first sign of a medical problem.
If you or a fellow athlete needs help, just raise your hand to alert a
lifeguard or safety boat.
Race rules allow for competitors to stop or rest at any time during the
swim.
Feel free to hold on to a static object like a raft, buoy, or dock.
You may also rest by holding on to a kayak, boat or even a paddleboard. As long as you dont use it to move forward, you wont face
disqualification.
You should never race in equipment you havent trained in this is not
the time to test new gear.
Make sure your wetsuit fits properly and that your goggles, swim cap
and other accessories work properly.
Prepare for the unexpected with backups of all your gear.

The winding 180 kilometer bike course will challenge and inspire IRONMAN athletes. The clear water of Lake of Bays, a vast expanse of
hardwood trees, colourful outcroppings of granite are all sights athletes will see as they make their way through the bike course. In addition,
the course takes athletes through three small and charming Muskoka communities: Dwight, Dorset and Baysville. Here bikers will get the
opportunity to bottle exchange, and also listen to the encouraging cheers from the masses of spectators. Its this that will inspire athletes to
complete the bike course and make their way to the next leg of their IRONMAN journey.

RUN
Participation in the PC Open Division is available to athletes with a medically verified physical, visual, or neurological impairment that substantially limits
one or more major life activities. Athletes with miscellaneous conditions such as, but not limited to, intolerance to temperature extremes, organ transplants, joint replacements (endoprosthetics), kidney dialysis, hearing impairments, and or cognitive impairment are not eligible for the PC Open Division.

medical policy
All medical expenses incurred are the sole responsibility of the
athlete and not IRONMAN. Triathlon Ontario provides secondary coverage in qualified circumstances. Failure to meet financial
responsibility to local medical facilities will result in suspension of
future participation at IRONMAN events until accounts are settled.
Particular dangers include dehydration, hyponatremia, sunburn,
exhaustion and injuries sustained from accidents. Please ask for
medical help if you have the slightest hint you may need it. You
will not be penalized for receiving a medical evaluation. You will be
withdrawn from the race only if you require transportation, IV fluids or if medical personnel feel your continued participation could
result in serious harm or death.
During events of extreme endurance, the bodys pain threshold
is raised, and you may be in more trouble than you realize. The
medical personnel will do all they can to keep you in the race and
assure a safe finish. Also, please be attentive when taking water
and sponges from volunteers when youre on your bike to avoid the
possibility of accident or injury to yourself or another.
Please trim your fingernails and toenails prior to the start of the
race to avoid injury to other athletes. Be especially careful to rinse
your goggles of any excess defogger solutions to avoid eye irritation.
If you are taking any medications, or have any medical problem that
may influence your performance or your treatment in the event of an
injury, advise us of all necessary details well in advance of race day. At
athlete check-in, you are required to notify the medical team, in writing,
if there is any change in your medical status/condition after your application has been processed. Failure to do so will result in suspension
of participation in future IRONMAN events. You are solely responsible
for avoiding medications that appear on the list of banned substances
as determined from WEC Anti-Doping.
Feedback from previous IRONMAN contestants indicates we can never
over emphasize the importance of hydrating prior to and during the
event. Ironmans Chief Physician recommends you begin hydrating
heavily several days before the race and drink enough water so your
urine is clear, colorless and copious by race day.
PLEASE NOTE: Full disclosure of medical condition(s), general health
and surgical procedures within the previous 12 months is required.
Medical consultation/clearance may be necessary from an attending
physician prior to participating in the event. In all cases, the final decision of medical consideration is at the discretion of the Ironman medical
director.
PLEASE NOTE: Report any important medical information on the back of
your race bib. Space is provided for you to do so.

ARE REGISTERED AT WWW.IRONMAN.COM/TRICLUBS.
TRiCLUB PROGRAM
Championship Awards
how it works
Clubs are divided into club divisions based on the size of the club. This makes it fun for TriClubs to compete against other TriClubs in their division.
For races in North America, clubs compete against each other at IRONMAN and IRONMAN 70.3 events. Athletes who are registered with a club earn
points based on IRONMANs Age Group Ranking system. These points are added together and are used to determine the Division Champion at the
event.
For the Cross-Canada overall competition any clubs that meet the qualifying criteria will be automatically entered into the championship point
calculation. Any points earned at any races, including those earned outside of the Canadian series will count towards determining the top pointgetting clubs. Points will be frozen on December 31, 2015 and the winners of the competition will be announced in early January 2016.
Divisions
Division I - Clubs with greater than 300 active members and National Coaching programs
Division II - Clubs with 176-299 active members
Division III - Clubs with 76-175 active members
Division IV - Clubs with 26-75 active members
Division V - Clubs under 25 active members
