Miss Lube Rack!

In 1951 the Muller Bros., an

Oldsmobile-Firestone
Tire-Car
Wash-Cafe-Body
Shop-Home
Appliance-Auto Supply Dealer
located at Sunset and Ivar in Los
Angeles, California, named their
complex The Landing. And with
good reason, they had everything
you could want on one lot. It was
giant compared to most new and
used car dealers of the time, and
it even had a control tower. They
came up with the idea to hold a
beauty contest to celebrate the
3,000,000th (three-millionth!) car
to be pulled through its car wash.
Life Magazine was there to photodocument the PR event for the rest
of us to look back on. Obviously, she
looks pretty happy to be crowned
Miss Lube Rack. Perhaps its time
for Glasgow Auto Safety Center to
have a Miss Lube Rack contest.

And the American Serengeti grows...

Here come more bison

According to the American Prairie Reserves website
in building a multi-million acre wildlife reserve, their
short-term population goal is to reach 1,000 animals by
2018, with the ultimate goal of reaching at least 10,000
bison when theres enough land to support a large herd
and its seasonal movements.

If you tuned into Hailey Shipps and Stan Ozarks
news report on KLTZ/KLAN this morning, not good
news for those who dont want to see more bison in our
back yard.

The Bureau of Land Management has approved a
request from the American Prairie Reserve to change a
grazing permit on the 13,000-acre Flat Creek allotment
south of Malta to allow bison to graze on federal land all
year.

The proposed decision also calls for the removal of
interior fences inside the allotment and monitoring to
ensure greater sage grouse habitat is not damaged.
BLM spokesman Jonathan Moor says the proposed
decision will become final if there are no protests.
Any applicant, permittee, lessee or other affected
interest may protest the proposed decision in writing
within 15 days to: Field Manager, Bureau of Land
Management, 501 S. Second St. E., Malta, MT 59538.

Written protests should clearly and concisely state
the reason(s) why this proposed decision is in error. A
written protest electronically transmitted (e.g., email,
facsimile, or social media) will not be accepted. A written
protest must be on paper. For more information, call
406-654-5100.

Freight
movement
drives the number of trucks
that pass through our
communities. Population
and the economy drive
freight movements.
The U.S. economy
is expected to double
in size over the next 30
years. By 2045, the nations
population is projected
to increase to 389 million
people, compared to 321
million in 2015.
Expect to see more
trucks passing through
our communities. Picture
65 percent more trucks on
the highways you drive and
which your community
relies upon to receive goods
to purchase and send goods
to markets. Expansion to a
fourlane divided highway
will make our highways
and communities safer.
As populations grow
consumers demand more
and more goods and want
just in time delivery. The
result is a growing number
of trucks on our highways.
The goods available at
your local retail outlet and
the cost of these goods
is directly impacted by
highways connecting your
community to the world.

The following excerpt

is from the DRAFT
National Freight Strategic
Plan.
Our freight system
moves
approximately
63 tons of goods per
American each year. As our
population grows and our
economy expands, demand
for freight will grow as well,
placing additional strain
on an already challenged
transportation system. U.S.
freight demand will be
affected by several trends:
Freight will grow across
all transportation modes.
The changing nature
of our economy and
population will affect
where and how freight
moves.
All else being equal,
growth in overall freight
demand
will
place
increased pressure on
infrastructure throughout
the
country,
with
particularly
significant
impacts concentrated in

certain areas.
Increasing domestic
energy production will
have profound implications
for our transportation
system.
With no question
that freight movement will
continue to increase, the
expansion of the Portsto
Plains Corridor is critical.
PortstoPlains is a
grassroots alliance of over
275 communities and businesses, including alliance
partners Heartland Express-
