COURAGEOUS LEADER

Thomas Jefferson (April 13, 1743 July 4, 1826) was a

leading Founding Father of the United States, the author
of the Declaration of Independence (1776) and served as
the third President of the US (1801-1809). Jefferson was a
committed Republican arguing passionately for liberty,
democracy and devolved power. Jefferson also wrote the
statue for Religious Freedom in 1777 it was adopted by
the state of Virginia in 1786.
SERVANT LEADER
Martin Luther King, Jr. is an example of a servant leader. His
life shows the extraordinary power of servant leadership to
radically transform a nation.
Our communities and our country need servant leadership more
than ever. Deepening economic woes threaten the American
dream for far too many working people. Racial divisions are
embarrassingly persistent in too many aspects of our economic
and social lives. Political despair is battering the uniquely
American optimism that has made us a great nation.
There are precious few servant leaders in our current political
environment. Many elected officials are more interested in
personal power, individual legacy, and financial gain than in the
sacrifice and commitment that servant leadership requires

INSPIRATIONAL LEADER
Warren Buffet
The list is rounded out by yet another wealthy
businessman. Buffet was used his power for the
forces of good, however, and many believe his
influence helped to keep the recent financial crisis
from being a complete and total disaster. Buffet
helped out a handful of major corporations that
were struggling during the crisis, and he played a
big part in keeping investor confidence from
plummeting drastically. Buffet has done well in
America, but hes given back a lot too.
Interestingly enough, some of the most
inspirational leaders in the world had very humble
beginnings. This highlights the fact that just about
anyone can become an important member of
modern society. Thats especially true in the United
States. Theres nothing more inspiring than
someone who goes above and beyond the call of
duty simply to help others or a person who strives
to improve the world through amazing
technological advancements.

LAISSEZ FAIRE LEADER

Panama Canal: Led by President Theodore

Roosevelt, the Panama Canal was one of the most
ambitious projects in history when construction
began in 1904. Although it was beset by accidents
and geographic challenges, completion of the
Panama Canal in 1914 was an engineering marvel.
It could not have been accomplished without
Roosevelts willingness to delegate authority to
experts

TRANSITIONAL LEADER
Anyone familiar with Duke Basketball knows that Mike isn't the
only Krzyzewski who has an influence on the program.
His family is a regular fixture at Duke's home games, and his
wife Mickie serves as a motherly figure for many of the players,
which is why it isn't uncommon for players to stop by the
Krzyzewski home to often talk about things other than
basketball.
As an extension of the family atmosphere, Coach K wants his
players to commit to each other and become part of the Duke
family.
Whether it's during their college careers or later in life,
Krzyzewski expects his players to always remember that they're
part of a family at duke.

AUTOCRATIC LEADER
Ford, who helped perfect assembly-line
manufacturing and economies of scale, is one of
the clearest examples of an autocratic leader who
changed society. Although Ford remains a
controversial figure as an authoritarian industrial
magnet, he created hundreds of thousands of jobs
and raised wages for assembly-line workers.
