Dear Students and Parents,

Welcome to the 2015-2016 school year and the high school music
department. I am very excited for the band and choir programs this year.
Let me introduce myself. My name is Mrs. Perry and I am delighted to be the
music director at Parker High School as well as the band teacher at Wallace
Elementary and Wallace Junior High Schools. I am originally from
Massachusetts and went to Plymouth State University in New Hampshire
where I studied Music Education. I moved out to Arizona to teach general
music, choir and band at Le Pera Elementary and taught there for four years.
I have also taught general music at Havasu Preparatory Academy in Lake
Havasu City for a year. I am super excited to be back in Parker and to be able
to teach at all three schools for a second year.
Enclosed in this handbook is all the information you will need for the
upcoming semester in band or choir. If you have any questions or concerns
throughout the year, please dont hesitate to contact me by phone, email,
conference, or just stop in and see how the band and choir are doing. I am
looking forward to this year- lets make it a great one!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Perry

Missing Work:
If a student misses a band or choir class, they may choose to make up the

If a student misses an event, they may choose to make up the work by
writing a 3-4 page paper on one of the following subjects, following the
writing standards:

Research a composer/musician/band
o Full biography, including facts about their life, interesting
accomplishments, how they became famous, what they did to
influence music, etc.
Research a genre of music
o Explain the history of that genre- what influenced it,
characteristics of it, maybe what it influenced in the future.
Examples: Hip-hop, Rock n roll, Swing, Jazz, Heavy metal,
Country, Pop, Baroque, Romantic, etc.

If a student misses a concert, they may choose to make up the work by

performing the concert songs for an audience, videotaping their performance
and then writing a short critique of their performance for a grade.
