North Atlantic Treaty

Organization (NATO)

The history of NATO was based on the need for an organization back after World War II
to aid with Soviet expansionism, the halt of growing nationalist militarism, and the encouraging
Europes

political

integration. The Western Union, which was later in 1954 altered to be called the Western
European Union, was first created to deter the defensive aggression from the Soviet Union, but it
was soon presented that a transatlantic agreement could truly halt Soviet aggression, lay the
grounds for political integration, and not allow the revival of European militarism.

The threat of terrorism on NATO relies on the education of the issue surrounding
terrorism to membering countries and citizens, preparing and creating responding actions, and
the integration of interaction to engage with partner countries and international actors. The
enhancement of international engagement is used for intelligence-sharing. Intelligence-sharing
plays a big part of analysis reports relating to terrorism and transnational threats. The Alliance is

northern Syria to central Iraq. ISIS began back in 2004 as al Qaeda in Iraq, before altering as
ISIS in 2006. As an ally of Osama bin Ladens, both groups were anti-Western radical militant

groups contributing to the establishment of an independent Islamic state. Although, unlike al

Qaeda, ISIS has proven to be more destructive and effective at controlling territory it has
conquered. ISIS is putting governing structures in a place to rule conquered territories. From the
view of cabinet and governors to financial and legislative citizens, hierarchy of ISIS looks a lot
like those of some of the Western countries whose values it rejects.

The terrorist organization of ISIS, or the Islamic State or Iraq and Syria, are a big focus of
NATOs combat against terrorism. The past methods of the attempt to eradicate ISIS involve
President Barack Obama presenting his opposition at the NATO Summit in Wales based on
support of ISIS and NATO pledging to provide military assistance to Iraq upon request. NATO is
willing to put enough ground forces
