Case Study#1 Evaluation

Mr. Deaner is a 21 year old African American male who was recently admitted to the
inpatient psychiatric unit with a diagnosis of Paranoid Schizophrenia. Because of his
violent behaviors, he was started on a high dose of Haldol. On day 7 of Mr. Deaners
hospitalization, he had a fever of 104 and a BP of 160/110, he was diaphoretic, he
appeared to have some muscle rigidity, and was confused. Concurrently, because of the
patients paranoia, he had been refusing liquids and food.

Case Study#2 Evaluation

Ms. Jones is 52 year old Asian female who was evaluated in the community mental health
center for follow up appointment after discharge from an inpatient psychiatric unit. She
had a lithium level drawn 4 days prior to her appointment. The patient was seen by the
advanced practice nurse and her lithium level was reviewed with the patient. The lithium
level was 1.2. The patient had fine hand tremors, GI upset, mild polyurea, polydypsia,
muscle weakness, and lethargy. The patient reported that in spite of not feeling well, she
continued to take her medication until seen by the APRN.
