Classroom Management Plan

EN408 FA14

Classroom Set-Up:
1. Student Seating In my ideal classroom, I would have large high top tables
that would provide seating for four to six students at each table. The tables
would be situated so that the students are facing the sides of the classroom
adjacent to the front of the room. I would like there to be plenty of room inbetween the table so that students would be able to move about freely
without having to move chairs in order to pass between or around the tables.
I would also like ledges to be put up across the sides and back of the room
where students could step away from groups to work individually if need be
or for separation during test/quiz taking.
2. Teacher desk at the front of the room, I would set up my desk and space
against one of the corners in which it would not block the view of the
projector or any media that I was able to have in the room. At the back of the
room, I would also set up a second desk that was primarily used for
student/teacher meetings, quiet alone time area, or for visiting
teachers/staff/parents. This second desk would not be one that I did work
from or kept my work at.
3. Supply Area I would like to stock my room with large plastic containers and
organizers that would fit under the ledges along the walls. Larger equipment
that needed to be in the room would be kept at a back corner of the room
where it could be accessed but not be in the way or a distraction.
4. Wall Space. I would like to use the front of the room for all of my projection
screens and multi-media equipment. There would also be a line of
white/chalk boards for use. Along the sides of the room, informational
posters/pictures/papers would be placed. Along the back of the classroom, a
second section of white/chalk boards would be placed along with bulletin
boards set aside for daily/weekly/monthly schedules and planning. This is
where student will find out what is coming next as well as what they missed
along with any work they need.
Daily Routines:
1. Bathroom/Hall-pass Procedure at the door, there will be a book for signing in
and out with hall/bathroom passes. I will have two bathroom passes for each
sex and two hall passes for those who need to move about the school for a
specific reason. Students will be required to notify the teacher of where and
what they are doing as well as fill out the book with pertinent information.
2. Room Use
a. Teachers desks at the front and back of the room will be managed by
the teacher. These areas will be approachable and organized in case
students require the use of them.
b. Student tables will be where students are expected to spend most of
their time during the lessons.

3.

4.

5.

6.

c. Ledges along the outside of the room will be for use when students
need to be separated or feel they would like some personal time.
d. Use of the storage areas and equipment will be on an as needed basis.
Student will be encouraged to stay out of these areas unless retrieving
or replacing supplies or equipment.
Seatwork
a. Collaboration will be encouraged between students that are sitting at a
common table. Inter-table communication will be kept to an as needed
basis.
b. All work to be turned in will be put into a container on each of the
desks for the teacher to collect at their convenience.
c. Students will be allowed one book and one notebook of their choosing
to use once material from that day has been completed or during wait
time.
Out-of-Seat
a. Students are expected to be in their seats unless the lesson has an
interactive part that requires them to move about
b. If material, bathroom, or hall passes are need, the student is expected
to move about the room in a quiet and intelligent way
c. Out-of-seat time will be monitored by the teacher and if abuses are
being seen, procedures will be implemented.
Beginning the Class
a. There will be an activity posted at the front of the room every day as
well as a list of the materials needed for every class. Students are
expected to first acquire the required materials for the day and set
them on their table and then sit down to start on the beginning activity
until it is time to start the lesson.
b. Tardy/late students will not be punished. Students are expected to be
on time for class everyday but occasionally there are times when this
will not happen. If habitual tardiness occurs, a student/teacher
meeting will be set up to discuss the issue.
Ending of Class
a. Lessons will be designed to go the full length of the class and then
some.
b. Students are expected to stay in their seats and on task until the end
of the lesson each day.
c. There will be a brief recap of information presented or an exit question
for the students to turn in before they are allowed to leave the class.
d. When released, students will be expected to collect their belongings,
return equipment/materials, and leave the room in an orderly and
systematic way.

Rules for Behavior:

1. Expectations Excellence will be the standard that I set for my students. At
the beginning of the year, I will spend time with the students setting up a list
of expectations at I have for the students, that they have for me, and that
they have for themselves.
a. My Expectations

i. Respect for teachers, classmates, substitutes, parents,

administration, school supplies and equipment, personal items,
and school workers.
ii. Trying everything at least twice. I expect all students to give
their best effort at least twice before they say they cant do
something or ask for help. This goes for all aspects of their lives
inside my classroom and hopefully outside as well.
iii. I believe that all students should be responsible for themselves
(both lives and actions). I do not expect everyone to be perfect
in everything they do and to make the right decision at every
turn but I do expect them to take responsibility for everything
they do and the consequences of those actions (good and bad).
iv. It is understood that bad days happen and there is nothing we
can do about that. I do not expect everyone to be happy every
day but my expectation is that they will be positive every time
they enter my classroom. You may be angry or sad or upset but
that doesnt mean you cant be positive towards teachers,
students, friends, and yourself.
2. Consequences Every action that we perform throughout our lives will have a
consequence attached to it. Some are not noticeable and some are life
changing. This will be the same in my class. There will be consequences for
the correct and incorrect actions that are taken in my classroom. Educational
rewards and punishments will not be dealt out though. Students are in school
to learn and more or less work should not be given in response to behavioral
actions. At the beginning of the year, time will be spent, by the teachers and
students, on coming up with a list of consequences for student actions
throughout the course of the year.
a. All actions that fall under the judgment of school administration will be
dealt with through the school administration. Thing of this nature will
be violence and behavior that is considered harmful to others.
b. For all actions that are not referred to in administrative guidelines, will
be dealt with by the teacher, student affected, and the student causing
the incident.
c. Retribution will be one of the options that I will put forth as the teacher.
Other options that the students and teacher come up with at the
beginning of the year will be allowed as options the students may
choose from
3. Follow-Up The teacher and offending student will set up a meeting time and
place to review any consequences that have been assigned and completed.
This meeting could range from a brief word with the student and teacher
during or in-between class or a longer meeting before, after, or during lunch if
needed.
