The Devastation that Pushes for Change
On the 31st of October 2015 a Russian plane carrying 224 people
crashed on Egyptian soil (Anadolu Agency). The crash has brought nothing
but grief, passion, devastation, and a thirst for the truth. The crash has
caused many questions and accusations, only adding more stress for both
countries. The Russian and Egyptian governments have both faced a major
catastrophe. Whether or not the crash was caused by terrorism, both
countries need to take action towards making travel through air safer and
more secure.
Russia has suffered a great loss, and with loss comes the need for
revenge. Russian president Vladimir Putin has set out for more information to
lead him to the truth his country needs. Putin has stated that they are
seeking revenge and will not forget the occurrence.
We will find them anywhere on the planet and punish them (Melvin).
Stopping at nothing Putin is issuing a fifty million dollar reward to anyone
who can give valid information about the crash and who did it, hoping that
the crash isn't a result to terrorism. Putin is digging for answers anywhere he
can. Although at this point there haven't been any more major threats
towards Egypt, both Russia and the U.K have shut down any flights leaving to

or from Egypt to ensure the safety of their people (BBC News). Other
countries believe this action to be quick to judge and unnecessary (Daily
News Egypt). Russia has been playing all of its moves carefully to avoid
anymore trouble, and keep the main issues at hand, finding justice for its
people.
The Egyptian government has been facing great issues with their
government and the way its handling the crisis. When something huge like
this happens in a country usually the people look to the government to be on
their side, searching for ways to be more secure and and answers to the
problem at hand. Recently the Egyptian government has been doing
anything possible to ignore the accusations, and steer clear from any ties to
terrorism instead of addressing the facts (Daily News Egypt). Egypt has been
receiving terrorist threats for a while now, their main priority should be
figuring out how they can prevent and demolish terrorism in Egypt (Daily
News Egypt). The firing of two airport employees has been rumored to be
associated with the recent crash, but the government has shut it down and
denied it (Weaver). In order for things to evolve in Egypt the government
needs to start working with the problems not against them.
The Egyptian president Abdel Fattah el-Sisis main concern is the
tourist market, with all this talk of terrorism it's bound to drop like a bomb.
Russian tourists are the main source of tourism in Egypt, with the plane crash
striking fear into not only the Russians but people all over the world (Anadolu
Agency). Egypts already suffering tourist market is only going to get worse,

it can be inferred that this is the reason for Egypts choice to avoid the word
terrorism when talking about the cause of the crash.
The cause of the crash has been a raging topic, at first it was unknown
but throughout the investigation all arrows began to point towards a
homemade bomb (BBC News). Even though it wasn't official, since the
beginning people have safely assuming it was a bomb. But recently the tests
have confirmed that it in fact was (Melvin). The bomb is estimated to have
contained 1 kilo (2.2 pounds) of explosives. Scientists have been doing tests,
and it has come to shore that the bomb was made in a country other than
Russia (Weaver). ISIS has been claiming that theyre responsible for the
crash. The Russian and Egyptian people are searching for any other possible
suspects, as another terrorist attack caused by ISIS will only cause more
devastation, yet American officials are leaning more towards blaming ISIS
(Starr). The Egyptian government is doing as much as they can to advert the
public from jumping to blame ISIS, and the American officials are going
against their push.
Russia and Egypt are both struggling to make it through this
unfortunate happening without making too big of a mess. With Russia on a
hunt for revenge, and the truth, and Egypt trying to salvage what little
tourism they have left in their country, the world is left with two countries in
the hands of whoever caused the tragedy. The only way for things to be
resolved is for the countries to straighten out their problems and work on
strengthening their security.

When I was thinking about what I wanted to research, I decided that I
wanted to find something that I hadnt already known too much about. This
meant that it had to be a pretty recent occurrence for it to be not only
interesting to learn about but to write about for a month as well. When I
searched recent global events, one of the first things that showed up was
Russian Plane Crash in Egypt, this caught my attention immediately as Ive
always been interested in air travel.
During the research part of the process, I had some issues finding
information about the crash. During this time it had only been a few days
since the crash happened so they hadnt discovered too much about the
cause. Eventually new information came up and I was able to come up with
enough to write my paper.
