Multi-Camera Production Roles


You will be producing 3-4 interviews during your chat show. For each interview state who will be doing
which role. You must do EVERY role once during the show.

TASK 1: Define each of the following roles
Interviewer:
The interviewer is somebody who interviews a guest in the production. A guest will come
in for the show who relates to the topic of the show, and it is the interviewers job to get
the interview.
The interviewer works on the studio floor or on location of the interview
An interviewer needs to have an understanding of basic research at skills at the very
minimum, must be a good at communicating, and must be able to retrieve information.

Director
According to Creative Skill Set, a director for multi-camera productions is being
responsible for the look and sound of a production and its technical standards. It also
says they have to be responsible for the look and sound of a production and its technical
standards. It is also to enhance, refine and realise original ideas into a a finished
programme.
While the director works in every part of the studio, they mainly work in the control room to
make sure things run smoothly.
A TV director must be able to translate an idea onto television, understand production
processes, be an effective leader, have budgeting and finance skills, understand audio
and vision mixing, understand camera shooting and have good communication skills.

Camera Person
Creative Skill Set states that a studio camera person ensures cameras are rigged and
ready for shooting.
A camera person works on the studio floor, directly behind the cameras. This is because

they must keep an eye on the cameras at all times.


A camera person must have good colour vision, excellent hand-to-eye coordination,
strong knowledge of technology, in depth camera knowledge, good communication
skills, must be a team worker, be able to frame and compose shots.

Sound Mixing
According to Film Sound, a sound mixer is responsible for recording production dialogue and effects.
The sound mixer works in the sound mixing room.
A sound mixer need a good understanding of acoustics, expert knowledge on sound recording/
editing, and good listening skills

Vision Mixing
Creative Skills Set says that a vision mixer must be able to edit live programmes, using a variety go
methods involving transitions. They merge images from different visual sources, such as cameras
etc.
The vision mixer works in the vision mixing room.
Be able to work on different vision mixing desks, understand transmission language, work well under
pressure, high concentration levels, be able to multi-task, excellent organisation skills, good
communication skills, precise colour vision, sense of rhythm.

Graphics Generator
The job of the graphics generator is to make the graphics and templates that would be required
on the green screen and for the inserts.
They work in vision mixer room.
What skills do they need to do their job well?

Lighting Desk
The person who controls the lighting desk has the job of operating the lights, programme the lighting
desk and repair the lights.
The lighting desk
The person who operates the lighting desk must be able to visualise lighting effects, be able to work
in a team, have knowledge of different lighting equipments and effects.

Floor Manager
The role of the floor manager is to maintain the health and safety of the people of the studio, and
to make sure there are not hazards in the studio.
Works in all parts of the studio.
They need to be a good team leader.
