You must complete at least four word work activities per week. You may not select the same combination of
activities each week. Be sure to mix it up and try new things!

Activity
Word Sort Wonder - Write a paragraph describing what you have learned
about your words and their sort this week.
Quotation Mark Practice: Write a dialogue between two or more characters
using all of your words. Be sure to use quotation marks and appropriate
punctuation. Underline each spelling and vocabulary word. Words must be
used in the appropriate context.
Examples of Correctly Used Quotation Marks:
Sam, whispered his little brother, its time to get up!
What do you mean? groaned Sam. Its only 4:30 in the morning!
Exactly. The best time for comet-watching. Come on!
Spelling Practice [You may ONLY choose one of the following each week.]
Newsy words: Use an old magazine, newspaper, or catalogs to cut out
letters. Glue the letters down on construction paper to spell your 7 most
difficult words.
Wordle: Go to wordle.net and create a word cloud using all of your
spelling words. Try playing around with the word cloud to make the
most difficult words stand out.
Syllable Highlight: Write each of your words for the week on a piece of
notebook paper in a neatly organized, numbered list. Then, carefully
highlight each of the syllables in each word with a different color. So, if
the word is outside, then out would be highlighted in one color, and
side would be highlighted in a different color.
Plural/Possessive Practice Paragraph Select 3-5 of your words to use in a
paragraph. In the paragraph, include at least 1-2 examples of plural nouns
and 1-2 examples of possessive nouns (can be possessive plural or
possessive singular). Paragraph can be about ANYTHING, and should be 5-7
sentences long.
Own the Word [HAND OUT] Choose one word from your list. Write it in
the box. Think about what it means. Write a sentence explaining what the
word is like to you. Write one sentence explaining what the word is NOT
like. Write 2 other words that remind you of this word. Write a creative
sentence and draw a picture to go with it.
Connect To [HANDOUT] -- Study this weeks vocabulary words and
definitions and look for connections between the words. The connections
may be related to the words themselves, the definitions, or a context you
might use them. Connect at least 4 different words!
