Objective: Identify contributors to the atomic theory and trace the historical development of the atomic theory.
Students will complete one of the following:
Independent
Make a lineless illustrated booklet of scientists who contributed to the atomic theory. Begin with Democritus
and go through the present (minimum of 6). Describe each theory and the ideas that led to his/her theory.
Include a hand drawn diagram of a fluorine atom in which the following are labeled electrons, neutrons,
protons, electron cloud, and nucleus.
Makes sure to include the following in your booklet:
Cover Page with title, name, date, and class period on it
Table of Content
Pictures of
-Democritus and his model
-Dalton and his model
-Thomson, his model, and his experiment
-Rutherford, his model, and his experiment
-Bohr and his model
-Add at least one more person of your choice (to meet your minimum of 6 requirement)

Group (4 members maximum)
Prepare a creative presentation to help the class better understand how the scientist credited for contributing to
the atomic theory did so. Present the information in chronological order starting with Democritus through now
(minimum of 6). Group members must take on the role of the scientists who contributed to the atomic theory.
Methods of presenting can be skits, commercials, interviews, etc Presentations are to be a video format and
submitted on Canvas.
Make a time-line on a poster.
In addition, each group member will complete the following:
On a separate 8.5 x 11 inch lineless paper, hand drawn diagram a fluorine atom. Include and label electrons,
neutrons, protons, electron cloud, and nucleus.
