I have passed my MSc. Computer Science degree from University College of

Information Technology, University of the Punjab, Lahore, Pakistan. There were nineteen
subjects consisting of seventy-two credit hours. I did course projects during the two years of
study individually as well as in a group which created in me self-confidence as well as ability
to work in team environment. My final project was Management Information System of a
private company. Basically, I was interested in developing business applications because I
did bachelors in commerce subjects. My knowledge of business and commerce as well as
growing importance of computer technology in business and industry incited me to choose
computer science as final field of study.

I have still great thirst for more education. My aims are to do a PhD in Computer
Science. I know that according to the rules and regulations of Universities of Sweden I have
to readmit and complete Masters program first and then apply again for the PhD in Computer
Science if I fulfill the rules and regulations of the Swedish Government and its Educational
Institutions. So I am applying for the same and I believe that this Masters program would
polish my skills more and would enable me to get start PhD accordingly.

Sweden is education friendly country and promoting higher education in every

possible manner without discrimination of race, gender and religion. Sweden has one of
Europes most comprehensive quality education systems. The OECD puts Sweden among the
worlds top investors in education. Investment has helped produce a vibrant, creative and
student-centered system, one in which much of the work is left to the students own initiative.
Though often demanding, such a system with its lack of rigid scheduling is also highly
stimulating as it encourages students to develop a critical mind and an independent approach
two highly sought attributes in todays knowledge-based employment market. Few of my
friends are already studying in Swedish Universities and they admire the high standard of
education and their amicable culture. These are the reasons for which I choose Sweden for
my higher education.
In Pakistan, while getting a reasonable job any foreign qualified person is always
preferred and paid well. Also Pakistan is in a desperate need for foreign qualified persons and
their skills for its development. So in future when Ill return I am sure to get a good position
to serve my country.

The course BA (Hons) Business Management which I have chosen to study is not being
widely offered by the universities in Pakistan, and to be in United Kingdom means it will
better enhance my leadership skills which are main to my course of business studies and
better polish my skills in the most competitive, creative and practical environment. There is a
wide mixture of cultures in the UK and there are foreign communities from most parts of the
world, which means that I can learn how to live and compete in diverse culture. In UK there
is freedom; people usually feel free to express their own opinions and to do what they want.
There is creative environment; individual's ideas are encouraged. UK is where the English
Language developed. There are more people using English as their first language in the UK
than in any other country except the US. In United Kingdom there are 60 million people
speaking English it means that I can easily communicate and study there.
UK is a relatively safe country; police do not usually carry guns, and there are strict controls
on the ownership of weapons. The British educational system has a good reputation.
Accredited qualifications obtained from British schools and universities are recognized in
most parts of the world. There are courses in a wide variety of subjects, including many
which are open to international students, which compel me to choose to study in UK. There is

wide variety of food available (both traditional British food and international cuisine)
especially in the bigger cities which means I can get what I want to eat.
The British weather is quite moderate. In general the summers are not too hot, and the winters
are not too cold. The weather is pleasant enough for studying or working, especially between
the spring and autumn.
Studying in UK will help me to build skills such as creative thinking, being able to work on
my own initiative and strong teamwork and communication skills. British degrees are highly
regarded by employers as they have a strong emphasis on practical experience whether this is
in laboratory work, research projects, or case studies. Furthermore, admission into university
is competitive and class sizes are restricted to ensure that all students have sufficient access to
equipment that leads to better graduate outcome.
At the end I hope you will issue admission letter/visa so that I could continue my study in a
world-class environment and to accomplish my dreams.
For these reasons I have chosen Newcastle College because it fulfills all of my requirements
and I am also fulfilling all of its minimum requirement for admission.

Thanks a lot.

Create a Study Plan

What is a study plan?

A study plan is an organized schedule that students create that outlines study times and
learning goals. Just like with work or school schedules, college students should develop a
study schedule where they can block off days and times in their calendar dedicated to
studying. Creating a study plan not only helps you become more organized, but it also holds
you accountable for your own learning outcomes. If you are an online student, a study plan is
even more important in your success in college, since you need to have self-discipline and
determination to complete your studies without the constant reminders of an instructor.

Why do I need a study plan?

A study plan is an effective way to help you navigate through your college education in an
organized way. Every student will develop a different study plan; there is no correct study
plan for everyone. When creating your personalized study plan, you will need to do some
self-evaluation of your current schedule and time management. Find days when you have
fewer personal commitments when you can squeeze some study time. Remember, each
student studies differently, so the amount of time you need to study will differ from the time
your classmates devote to studying. Some students find that studying nightly for thirty
minutes is more realistic than studying a few times a week for a longer period of time.
Youll have to identify your learning goals for each study session in order to maximize these
scheduled study times. Determine why you are studying, and develop a plan that can help you
achieve those goals. Take into consideration upcoming tests, your average in certain courses,
and projects that you anticipate will take more time than others.
Lastly, create a study plan that is reasonable. Although you must set aside enough time in
your schedule dedicated to your studies, blocking off five hours with no break will set you up
for failure. You can spend less time studying if you do it correctly. For a detailed look at how
to make a personalized study plan, explore the step-by-step instructions below.

Use these four steps to create your study plan

Step #1: Create a time chart of your current activities. Creating a time chart will allow
you to see how you spend your time from day to day. For a one-week period, take notes about
your daily activities. Record things like when you are at work, school, or home with family.
Even note when you eat and sleep. Once you have done this for a week, look for times that
you can slip in an hour of dedicated studying. This chart can be helpful for determining days
and times that are consistent each week that you can devote to studying.
Step #2: Develop a schedule Now that you have determined available days and times for
studying, make a mark in your planner or calendar. Use detailed notes to block out times on
your calendar so that you are reminded every time you look at it. It is best to have a schedule
written down so you dont forget. Seeing it written down can make it seem more important,
like a doctors appointment you cannot miss. Also, it is helpful to write down which subject
you plan to study, so you can be sure devote enough time to each of your classes. For
example, Mondays and Thursdays can be set aside for studying math, while Tuesdays and
Fridays can be devoted to English.
Step #3: Determine your study goals At the beginning of each week, determine why you
need to study and what you plan to accomplish in each class. Do you want to raise your
average in a particular class in order to maintain a certain GPA? Are you preparing for a big
exam? For example, if you are studying for an important midterm exam, alter your study plan
two weeks prior to the test to incorporate review of old tests and notes in your sessions. On
the other hand, when you dont have an upcoming test, use your study time to read ahead one
chapter in order to grasp the next lecture. You will need to tailor your study plan depending
on your weekly goals, so be sure to analyze what you plan to get out of each study session.
While it is tempting to skip your study session when there isnt a test looming over your
head, you will reduce your future test preparation time by reading ahead and preparing for
lectures.
Step #4: Stick to your schedule A study plan works best if it is followed on a consistent
basis. You should try to develop a study plan that you can follow for the length of each
semester of college. Since most students enroll in different classes each semester, you will
have to reevaluate your plan and fine-tune it each term. Remember, the most important thing
is sticking to your plan.

Strategize for effective follow-through

One way to ensure you follow through with your plan is to schedule time for other activities.
By achieving a balanced schedule, your mind will be more receptive during time devoted to
studying. If you schedule several long days in a row of studying, you will get discouraged
and will be tempted to give up. It is acceptable, and even recommended, that you schedule
time for nonacademic activities, such as exercise, hobbies, and socializing with other
students. When you are studying, remember to take breaks in order to prevent feeling
overwhelmed.
Lastly, some students find it helpful to find a study partner. Studying with a classmate allows
for collaboration and discussion. When creating your study plan, check with other students in
your class to determine if you can coordinate study sessions. However, if you tend to
socialize more than study when you are around others, stick to an independent study plan. If
you do choose to study with a partner, choose someone with whom you are likely to stay on
task.

Leverage tools for creating a study plan

If keeping a paper and pen schedule is not helpful to you, consider other ways for keeping
your studies on track. Take advantage of study planner apps, like My Study Planner, available
for smart phones and tablets, which can help you manage your study schedules. Websites like
MyStudyLife.com are also helpful, allowing you to create an account to better organize your
study time with to-do lists and calendars.
My name is Li Hua, I am a communications manager from London, United
Kingdom and I plan to study Mandarin in China for one year.
Past
My interest in learning Chinese stemmed from 2002 when I passed through
Beijing on route to Mongolia where I participated in charity work. As I passed
through Beijing I instantly fell in love with the culture.
In 2006 I graduated from Brunel University. My final dissertation focused on
doing business across Asia. Once submitted I began studying Mandarin parttime.
Studying Mandarin quickly became my favourite hobby and in 2007 I enrolled in
the Waltham Forest Chinese Association Sunday Chinese School. My passion for
learning Chinese enabled me to achieve excellent results and in academic years
2007/2008 and 2008/2009 I achieved awards within the school (please see
attached letter of recommendation from the Head Master). I accomplished this
while working full time, as well as studying a postgraduate diploma in marketing.
Since my initial visit to China in 2002 I have returned five times, feeding my
passion for Chinese culture, language and to visit friends I have made along the
way.
Present
The scholarship will fund my education to study Mandarin at a Chinese university
for one year. The three universities I have chosen are Peking University, Tianjin
University and Beijing Jiaotong University. My first choice is Peking University.
Being the university with the longest history in teaching the Chinese language to
foreign students in China, Peking University continues to build on its heritage
playing a leading role in teaching Chinese. At present I am reading the Chinese
Breeze series (a series of story books designed for Chinese language learners)
published by Peking University Press. Peking Universitys teaching methods,
facilities and rich literature will be a key enabler in facilitating me to unfold my
potential.
My current profession as Communications Manager is very demanding and it can

What kind of program are you interested in?

Chinas universities offer thousands of programs for foreign students. Non-degree programs
teaching Chinese language and culture are particularly popular, but it is also possible to earn
your degree in China. Most degree programs are taught in Chinese and therefore require a
certain level of language proficiency. However, an increasing number of English-taught
degree programs are available.
If you are know what type of program you want to take, please click Find a Program. Most
degree programs have certain requirements of the applicants academic background and
language skills. Click to see the list of Requirements.

How much money are you willing to spend?

Compared to developed countries, the cost of living and studying in China is
relatively low. Accommodation in Beijing is roughly 1500RMB-3000RMB per month.
An average meal costs around 10-35RMB. The subway has a flat rate of 2RMB and
buses within the city are even cheaper. Smaller cities and those in Chinas central
and western regions are particularly inexpensive. For more information about specific
costs, please visit - How much does it cost.

Where do you want to study?

If youre unfamiliar with Chinas cities and universities, there are a number of pages you may
want to take a look at. For university rankings, browse our Good Universities Guide or the
Top Universities in China. For more information on Chinese cities, peruse our City Guide.
Universities are listed here and displayed on a map here.
If youre interested in taking a non-degree program to learn Chinese, you may have been told
that Beijing is the best location because the local dialect is the closest to standard Mandarin.
However, smaller cities with fewer foreigners are also well-worth considering, as youll
likely find yourself with even more opportunities to practice your Chinese. Consider
somewhere in the northeast like Liaoning province, where locals speak standard Mandarin,
but the cost of living is cheaper.

How long will you spend in China?

Degree programs are generally fixed: undergraduate degree programs last for four to fiveyears, masters degrees for two to three years, and doctorate degrees for three to five years.
Language programs are mainly one-semester (4-6 months), one-year or short-term
(anywhere from 1-8 weeks).

When do you want to start classes?

Degree programs: At most Chinese universities degree programs begin every autumn
(September). A small number of programs can admit students during spring.
Language programs: the one-semester (4-6 months) language course usually opens in both
semesters (starting in both September and February/March); the One-year language program
usually opens during fall (September); the short-term courses may have fixed times or may
arrange a time at the request of a group of students. Short-term summer programs have start
dates throughout June, July and August, and last between 1-8 weeks.
Vacations
Chinese universities have a one to two-month long winter breaks (January-February) and a
two month long summer break (July-August). Apart from short-term winter and summer
language programs, universities usually do not arrange classes during the vacation (if the
applicant wishes to study during the school holidays, please contact us service@cucas.cn).
Private language schools usually accept applicants anytime.
Note: Schools which state that you can enroll anytime mean that you can enroll anytime
except on holidays, winter and summer vacation. Winter and summer vacations are normally
during January to March and July to Sept.
