Joseph Plateau

Joseph Antoine Ferdinand Plateau was a Belgian physicist born on the

14th October 1801 and died on the 15th September 1883.

He was the First person to demonstrate the illusion of moving images,

this was used through rotating discs in which was repeated drawn images
in small increments of motion. This was called the Phenakistoscope.

It was seen as the persistence of vision

William Horner

William George Horner who was a British Mathematician. He was born

in 1786 and died on September 22 1837.

He was also schoolmaster, headmaster and schoolkeeeper. Due to his

work side involving maths he was able to contribute to the
approximation theory is honoured in the designation Horner's Method.
It was recognised by the respectful paper Philosophical Transaction of
the Royal Society of London 1819.

The modern invention of the Zoetrope was attributed to him.

Emile Reynaud

Charles- Emile Raynaud was a French inventor and was responsible for
the first projected animated cartoons.

He was born on the 8 December 1844 and died on the 9th January
1918.

He created the Praxinoscope in 1877 and the theatre opitque in

December 1888. the first animation was Pauvre Pierrot and the Musee
Grevin in paris.

Edward Muybridge

An English photographer the importance of his work in photographic

studies of motion and early work in motion picture projection.

His pioneering work on animal locomotion in 1877 to 1878 this used

multiple cameras to capture motion in stop-motion photographs and
his Zoopraxiscope.

Its a device that is used for projecting images and pre-dated the
flexible perforated film strip used in cinematography.

Thomas Edison

Thomas Alva Edison was an American inventor and businessman. He

was born on 11th February 1847 and then died on October 18th 1931.

He has developed many devices like he Phonograph, the motion

picture camera.

His main device created was the Kinetoscope. It is an early motion

picture exhibition device. It was designed for films to be viewed by
one individual through a peephole viewer at the top of the device.

It was a standard for all cinematic projection before the advent of

video. It creates the illusion of movement by conveying a strip of
perforated film (Sequential images) its then bearing over a light
source with a high shutter speed.

Lumiere Brothers

Auguste Marie Louis Nicolas (October 19th 1862 April 10 1954)

and Louis Jean (October 5th 1864 June 6th 1948)

They are the first filmmakers in history. Their first film was
considered to be the first true motion picture. It was called
Sortie de lusine Lumiere de Lyon. It was shot in 1895.

It is believed their first film was actually recorded that same

year (1895) with Leon Boulys cinmatographe device, which
was patented within the previous year.

The Cinmatographe is a 3 in 1 device that could record,

develop and project motion pictures. This was then later
developed by the Lumieres.

George Pal
George Pal was a Hungarian animator and film producer within the
science fiction genre. He was born on February 1st 1908 and then
died May 2nd 1980.
The film is a loose adaptation of the H. G. Wells novel of the same
name, and is the first of five feature film adaptations of his famous
1898 novel concerning an invasion of Earth from the planet Mars.
