SincethedawnoftheNewYear,Thayhasveryclearlycommunicatedtousawishtoreturnto
hishermitageinPlumVillage,France.Thayissatisfiedwiththeprogresshehasmadesofar,
thankstothephenomenalcareandattentionofthedoctorsatUCSF,aswellasallthemany
wonderfultherapiststreatinghiminthepastsixmonths.Thaywouldnowliketoreturnhometo
benefitfromthehealingcollectiveenergythereandtobewithhisPlumVillagefamily.The
doctorsapprovedofThaysdecisionandassuredusthatThaycouldmakethejourneywithout
risk.Theattendantteamwillcontinuetocareforourteacheraroundtheclockandtofindthe
mostappropriatetherapies.

WeareveryhappytoannouncethatThayarrivedsafelyatBergeracairportinFrancethis
afternoon(Friday8thJanuary),andreturnedtohishermitageinPlumVillage,toawarm
welcomeofsongsandsmilesfromhismonasticdisciples.

WeareprofoundlygratefulforallthesupportandlovingdonationsthatThayandthe
attendantshavereceivedthroughouttheirstayinSanFrancisco.Thelovingembraceofthe

globalSanghahasallowedThaytomakegreatprogressonhispathofrecovery,andhe
returnstoPlumVillageinvigoratedandfullofjoy.OntheeveoftheNewYear,Thayjoinedin
thejoyfulcelebrationswithhisattendants,smilingandhummingalongastheysang.Inthelast
fewdays,Thayhasalsoenjoyedlisteninganimatedlytorecordingsofhisownvoice
readingsomeofhisbestlovedpoems.WeareallhappytotrustinThaysnewintuitionto
returntoPlumVillage.InthecomingweekswewillcelebratetheLunarNewYear,theDaffodil
Festival,andtheGreatOrdinationCeremonyatPlumVillage,andareveryhappytoknowthat
Thaywillbeabletoenjoythesecelebrationswithus.

Wecontinuetopracticetogethertocareforourteacher,tocareforourselves,andtocarefor
thepresentmomentbydoingsowecanassureabrightfuturethatcontainstheloveof
community,sisterhoodandbrotherhood.Wearedeeplygratefulforthesupportiveenergythat
everyoneissendingourteacher,andinviteyoutocontinuedoingsoasweturnthisnewpage.

Summer2014IwasinWaldbrltohearyourspeech.TwoyearslongIhadnocontactwith
myson(33yearsold).Hehadaccusedmeofbeingguiltyforhisproblemsinlifeand
avoidedcontactsincethen.Atthebeginningofsummer2014hewrotemealetterfullof
accusations.Iwastotallyshockedandsadbecauseaftertheseparationfrommyhusband,
hisfather,IhadtriedtodothebestformychildrenwhoIlovedsomuch.AndIsufferedso

much.SoIdidnotknowhowtoreactandhowtocomeintocontactwithmysonagain.
ThenIheardyou,Thay.Thefirstsentences:youtalkedaboutafatherandhissonswho
hadnthavecontacttoeachotherforalongtime.Thenyouradvice:Listen,listencarefully.
ThisIdid.Iwenttoatherapywithmysonandlistened.Wehadquiteanumberoftherapy
lessonsandmoreandmoreIunderstoodmysonbetterandheme.

contemplatedonitandbelievethatitisacoreteachingcomingtomewhenIlookedathis
