1. Computer

Computer is a programmable machine that responds to a set of instructions and


executes it.

2. Desktop

Desktop is a computer display area. It displays icons that shows files, folders etc.

3. Icon

Icon is a small picture that represents a program or an object.

4. Shortcut

A type of file in some operating system that points to other file or folder. It helps to
access the file easily.

5. Taskbar

Taskbar is a desktop toolbar at the bottom of the desktop that allows switching
between the open files or folders.

6. Wallpaper

Wallpaper is a digital image used as a decorative background of a graphical user


interface on the screen of a computer.

7. Hardware

Object that can be touched like disk , keyboard , mouse etc.

8. Software

Computer instructions or data. Anything that can be stored electronically is software.

9. CPU

CPU (Central processing unit) is the brain of the computer where most calculations
take place.

10. Modem

Is a device or program that enables a computer to transmit data over, for example,
telephone or cable lines.

11. Peripheral

A peripheral device is an auxiliary device such as a computer or keyboard that


connects to and works with the computer in some way.

12. Input Device

Any machine that feeds data into a computer.

Device

Machine that represents information from a computer. This includes display screens,
printers etc.

14. CD-RW

CD-RW (Compact Disc-Rewritable) A blank compact disc that can be recorded,


erased, many times.

15. DVD-R

DVD-RA is a blank DVD on which data, including music and movies, can be
permanently recorded.

16. Byte

A byte is a unit of memory size.

17. RAM

RAM (random access memory), is a type of computer memory that can be accessed
randomly.

Read-only memory (ROM) is a non-volatile memory used in computers and other


electronic devices.

A program or computer that enables to perform word processing functions( storing,


manipulating, formatting )

It refers to orientations of the paper which is taller than its width.

Orientation

It refers to orientation of the paper its wider than it is tall.

A margin is a space separating text or other elements from the edge of the paper.

Indent is the number of blank spaces used to separate a paragraph from the left or
right margins.

Used to highlight a list.

29. Columns

It helps to split text into two or more columns.

30. Justify

It tells how the text is aligned.

31. Alignment

Arranging data to line up with a required format on a screen is called alignment.

Range is the Group of cells within a row or column.

Label is a name of a storage device.

A value is something that is stored in a variable, or object.

Formula is an expression that tells the computer which mathematical calculation to


perform.

A program loaded on computer without your knowledge that runs against your
wishes.

Phishing is a technique used to gain personal information for purposes of identity


theft, using fraudulent e-mail messages that appear to come from legitimate
businesses.

Pharming is a scamming practice in which malicious code is installed on a personal


computer, misdirecting user to fraudulent Web sites without their knowledge or
consent.
