Prompt 4
Churches throughout history have been a place where an individual can feel a connection
with God and feel a sense of contentedness with their reverence to him. People do not only go to
church just to hear the word of God but to be in the act of community with other believers. They
show their faith through worship, communion, and spreading the word of God to those who do
not know or do not believe in him. Churches send out missionaries that do not force religion
down peoples throats but they don knowledge of their belief on people attempting to save them
from damnation. In my faith of Christianity I practice these customs because to me this is the
environment I am most content in. I feel the reason why I am most content in this environment is
because I love the feeling of community church brings to me, hearing the teachings of Jesus, and
giving him my undivided Worship.
Community in any way possible is helpful because it allows people to come together and
talk about a certain subject. It allows people to care for each other and show that they are not
alone. The bible says in 1 Corinthians 12:25-26 so that there would be no division in the body,
but that the members would have the same concern for each other. So if one member suffers, all
members suffer with it; if one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it. (HCSB).
How I interpreted this quote in my head was that we are all theoretically one person and our
different personalities are just different body parts. If one person suffers everyone feels the

repercussions that come with it. For example if one body part fails on a person all the other
working parts are affected negatively. The reason community is content to me is from a personal
experience that happened at the beginning of my high school career to about last summer. I was
depressed. It made me feel awfully alone and separated from everyone. Through my church
community and leaders of the high school ministry I was able to overcome my depression by
opening up to people and just releasing that struggle from inside of me. The bible expresses
Therefore, confess your sins to one another, so that you may be healed. (James 5:16). In
distinctly says here that the only way to receive healing is to confess to a community of people so
that you can finally be healed. My contentedness of community comes from the fact that people
you surround yourself with help you recover from the problems of your life. Once you overcome
these problems turning to Jesus will help you get your life back on track.
Jesus was man of many words and parables that he taught to his disciples that was later
written into the bible. He teaches about the correct ways an individual should act and how one
should follow God. Jesus preaches of humility, turning the other cheek, the evil of materialism,
and not worrying about your future but giving it to God. When I started reading these stories of
Jesus I began to realize I was living my life all incorrectly. I did the opposite of all of these and I
realized this not how a follower of Christ should live. At this point of my life I know I needed
change to better myself in the long run. The reason I value his teachings greatly is because once I
was able to get my life together I was significantly satisfied with what God was doing in my life.
I began attending church more and worshiping him more than I did before, and has been a reason
why church has had a powerful impact in my life.
Worship is classified as giving your profound devotion to a person, place, or thing.
Worship is in all religions whether it be Christianity, Muslim, Buddhism, Confucianism etc. One

form of worship my church does is by singing songs that praise God and thank him for his
salvation. The Bible talks about worship by classifying it as giving your life to God and thanking
him for saving you from going to Hell. Hebrews 12:28-29 says Therefore, since we are
receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us hold on to grace. By it we may serve God
acceptably, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire. What this verse is
explaining is that Christians must give their undying worship to God because he is providing a
kingdom that is nothing but perfect. However we do not earn our way to Heaven, it is a gift
given from God that only you can take away by not worshiping and having a relationship with
him. This experience applies to my contentedness of church because the process of becoming
close to God makes me feel at peace with myself. During worship on Sundays and Wednesdays
at church I create this connection with God that makes me forget about everything that is going
on in my life and just fixes myself on him. I have no worry about anything because I believe he
has taken it all out of me. Worship is what makes your faith stronger. You can read the bible all
you want but if you do not show your admiration to God you are not going to make it far with
your walk with him.
Church is where I am content. I cannot deny to myself that this is where I belong because
there is no use of trying to hide it from people. Hiding this will only hurt me so I have learned to
embrace being in love with church and have been satisfied with what it consists of, including the
parts that made me become a stronger believer. Being in a community of peers that are believers
helped me increase my faith because I realize I am not alone. I now know I never was and I
never will be. I learned that the teachings that Jesus brought to the world were what really
opened my eyes because it was the first moment where I realized I was fake and that I needed a
spiritual reformation. Through worship I realized why I believe in God. It is not just for the end

goal of reaching heaven, but it was about establishing a relationship with him and
acknowledging him for his salvation. These three points are what make up what church is all
about and the reason it has a powerful impact on people. Even though I am a strong believer in
God, which is why I am content with church, it does not mean that I have perfected my walk
with Christ. The most important thing I learned though was that being content with something
does not be that you have perfected it, it means that you are satisfied with just this part and you
are working on being content with the next event life brings to you.
